445SM Chrony Range Report
« on: October 11, 2005, 01:10:19 PM »
I made it out to the range but forgot the bench so all accuracy testing was done off hand with factory iron sights.
All chrony FPS were at 10Â’ from muzzle.

Loads used:

44 Remington Mag.
Brass - Winchester
Primer - CCI Large Mag Pistol Primer
Powder - 2400 @ 17.0grs.
Bullet - Hornady 300gr. XTP
Velocity – Average 1475 F.P.S.
Max C.O.L - Over all length 1.600"
5 Shot Group – Average 1.685"

445Super Magnum
Brass - Starline
Primer - CCI Large Mag Pistol Primer
Powder – Win. 296 @ 29gr.
Bullet – Hornady 300gr. XTP
Velocity - Average 1975 F.P.S.
Max C.O.L - Over all length 1.935"
5 Shot Group – Average 1.200"

445Super Magnum
Brass - Starline
Primer – Win. Larger Rifle Primer
Powder – Win. 296 @ 29gr.
Bullet – Hornady 300gr. XTP
Velocity - Average 1965 F.P.S. (but with very large extreme spread)
Max C.O.L - Over all length 1.935"
5 Shot Group – Average 5 + "

IÂ’m very happy with my first results using the CCI primer. IÂ’ll do more work after I get the scope mounted on it.

A very promising start.

I take it you were using the open sights? What distance were you shooting from?

You read my mind Jeff   That will be the next load tested, I'm out of the 240gr. jacketed bullets(I shoot 1000's of my own 245gr. cast bullet so never purchased more jacketed) but will throw some 200gr Nosler's in the mix just for :-) and see how they shoot/chrony.

All shots were at 55 yards with the factory Iron sights.

Excellent! Sounds like it ought to be MOH (Minute of HOG) at 100 yards then.

Good report Warf, how's the recoil? Mine does about the same speed wise. Try 22.5 grs. of H 110 in the 44 mag,I got 1600 fps + in mine. Also if you get a chance try the 265 gr. Hornady's.  Digger

The recoil :-D your asking me about recoil well....... allot less than my 460WBY :-D

Recoil is very mild considering how light the gun is to what is being launched out the end of the barrel and the FPS its leaving at.

Never put much thought into cast bullets. Well I have but can't find the mold I like yet.

Would like to cast something around 265-275gr in the Keith style bullet with a gas check. So if anyone knows of such a critter PM plz.

Call Marshall Stanton over at BeartoothBullets (beartoothbullets.com), or go to his forum (http://www.shootersforum.com/) and ask him what mould he uses for this bullet - 265gr. WFPGC.  Shoots like a champ out of my handi when I buy them from him sized to .432

Here's Cast Performance page...

http://www.castperformance.com/users/performance/catalog.html?Vl=1&Tp=2

Their 300 grainer WLNGC shoot pretty good...I shot them in my 444 Marlin

These are some real heavy weights with a dual crimp groove...they are 320 grain ...they also have them without the dual crimp groove..
