« on: October 13, 2006, 07:43:39 AM »
Found a H&R in 22 Remington Jet. has anyone found a sourse of brass for this caliber? Without going the expensive brass forming die route?

Boy, you would be right about priceee. Thank you. I guess if I want to shoot it as is I need to just order the reforming dies. The rifle is like new, and I hesitate to have it rechambered, which was my first plan.

If you do sell I WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED!!! ;) ;D

It looks like Graf's has plenty of Remington brass for $26.99/100 all the way up to $469.63/2000.  It might be a good idea to slug the barrel to make sure what size bullet it will shoot.  .222" Jet bullet at Graf's.

Not true Crosshair, they were offered by H&R at one time along with several other rare calibers, there was one on ebay last year. ;)

Marv & Tim:
Thanks for the help. But.....went to the store to get the Jet, and guess what! Someome had just put it on layaway. (I know, you snoose, you loose!!) I asked the Dept Manager to call me if the purchase falls thru.

Tim: I appreciate the offer. If you can hold that thought for a week, I still may need them. That was a VERY fair price. If I can get the rifle, I will take you up on it. Thanks again.

Wally,
I have a handi in 22 jet.  It shoots the hornady 35 gn bullets great and Midway has the brass.

Many PDs slain with it in the last 2 years.

Hope you get ahold of it after all.

Good news! About two hours ago I got the word that the first buyer had called the shop and backed out, because he cound not find ammo for it. (Isn't it great to be a handloader?) So I went straight down and got her. Here are some photos of her. She looks like new, unfired, with real walnut stocks. Not even any safe/handling scars. She even looks good hanging between my scoped Mod 158 30-30 and my old 45-70.

Tim: Please PM me a complete address so I can get a MO off to you. Thanks again. Brass has already been ordered.

Wally I would like to know when H&R made the 22 Jet,
What are the letters in front of the nserial number?
That one looks just like 410 that is a 73 model.
 Thank you good luck Marv.

Congrats Wally!

Yours must be a later model than mine, mine does not have the upswept hammer and the chamber area of the barrel is different--hard to describe it but it's like a half-round top section, and the bottom half is kinda squared-up.

Mine likes IMR-4227 and 35 grain Hornady bullets.

Mike:
Your description sounds just like this Jet and my Model 158 30-30. Here are a couple more pictures that you might be able to see the shape of the chamber area. There must of been several additional milling steps and it made for a much lighter rifle. And the hammer is the same low hammer as my old 30-30 and 45-70.

Marv: Like my Model 158 30-30, this Model 158 Jet has no serial number, which surprises me because I always thought that only early rimfires rifles were exempt from serial numbers.

Wally Thanks for info. Feds put the law they had to have in 1968,
But my info H&R has been put serial no's on all since early 1940's.
 Best to you Marv.

McLernon

That bullet diameter was due to this round sharing a barrel with the 22 Long Rifle in the S&W revolver.

On the road this week, and this week-end will going on a Muly hunt, but when I get a chance I'll take a closer look to see if a serial number was stuck somewhere out of sight. Thanks.
