Contender Frame manufacture dates?
« on: November 30, 2006, 11:31:23 AM »
Hi guys:

Somewhere recently I found a post that listed Contender serial numbers with dates of manufacture so one could get an idea of when the frame left the factory.  I suspect that it was on this board, Specialty Pistols, or IHMSA.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

BTW, I did do a search before posting this.    :-)

Is that still on line?  I am the one that gave it to them.  I called T/C and they sent me the info. Nice to see people still use it.

Hello everyone after many years of wanting one I have started a collection of contenders which I have picked up at the local gun shows. by the listing on the forum they seem to be a 69-78-and 81 mod all seem to be in very good condition. My problem is this, I have also picked up a number of used barrel's and I find that they will not all release on some of the actions. I have one action that will only work with the barrels that came with it all the rest work fine with one exception I purchased a new barrels  and it will not release on any of the actions and yes I have cleaned oiled and checked all that I know to check and it still does not work any help?"

Thats a smooth side from the custom shop, Fox Ridge Outfitters. Not to be confused with the regular production run.

FRO stands for Fox Ridge Outfitters which was the T/C custom shop, factory store so to speak.  They  offered special non cataloged items such as a stainless frames without engraving.  Their serial numbers started with the FRO.
