Browning Mountain Rifle
« on: January 05, 2007, 02:37:21 PM »

Anyone know anything about the Johnathan Browning Mountain Rifles?  I saw one in .50 flintlock and it looked like a nice rifle, but I didn't know much about them.

My apologies, the rifle I was looking at was a percussion.  Was confusing it with a different flintlock I saw.

Ok percussion.
I thought I was going to spend tons of cash again just because I don't have one.
I like the single set trigger on the JB Mountain rifles

I have never owned one but have shot them several times & they shoot well. Heavy rifle & not my style , but I like swamped barrels.....
Have seen them for sale several times in gun stores & the average price seems to be 450-500 on the ones I have seen.  Saw 3 of them in one store in Lancaster OH but the bores were all filthy on them. Now & then you will have a guy at a gun show with allot of gab & try to hook ya into "how rare" this Browning ML is & etc., don't fall for it, it is basically a Hawken style rifle & that is it, no more no less.  One time they did make one with a fancy box & accessories & all, seems like they made 500 or 1000 of them, but if it has been shot or anything is missing, it is just another used ML & should be  priced accordingly.
A guy at the gun show had one 2 years ago & it was from one of these sets, but box & accessories were missing. He started with "How Rare" it was & was asking $1000. for it,  & a buddy of mine bought it the next day at the end of the show for $ 450.
