243 S.L. shoots good / range report
« on: January 07, 2007, 07:27:58 AM »
Took the new to me 243 superlite out this morning for a work out , i am extreamly impressed with how well it shoot @ 100 , 3 shots in 1 1/4 " groups , let it cool for about 15 min. and it shot the same 1 1/4 " .

These were shot with !00 gr. Speer BTSPs over 33 gr. of IMR 4895 and CCI large rifle primers . Rifle was rested on the sandbags just behind the forarm screw close to the hinge pin .

I am very interested to see what it will do with lighter bullets and a faster powder , granted this is no tac driver yet but will work well for yote's and groundhogs at 100 or less . will keep you posted .

Nice going Stimpy...

Try some 95gr. CT Silver BT's and Reloader #22 from a clean barrel if you get a chance to..I was impressed to say the least..

Good shootin Stimpy, just shows what a good shooter can do, even with a superlight!! Ya might wanta take advantage of the Noslers, they still have the 70gr, 80gr, 90gr and 95gr BTs at a great price!!

So what stock did you end up mounting on the SuperLight?
Thats some positive news to hear for all that are frusterated with the SL's.

Aaron

Put the Yellow tupperwear off my daughters sportster on it to keep weight down . even as light as it is the recoil was less than the 22-250 .

Iinteresting. You were able to get this with the synthetics on it. Not that Handis can't shoot good with them, just seem more finicky with them thats all.
Did you use an O-ring or bed it to the forearm?  You seem to have a good barrel already. And with 1 1/4groups with a superlight barrel and wearing the synthetics. I am most curious how she shoots with the stronger Laminates.. Not to keep them on it, as I know you want to keep it light, but just to test the accuracy potiential.
Anyway Thanks for the info Rich. Keep up the good work.

Hey Stimpy Try some Sierra 85 HPBT with IMR4320 That is what my 243 loves,
( not NEF ) You might like it Just my 2 cents. Marv.

Even at 1.25" you still have a 300 yard coyote gun  (using a 5" kill zone on a coyote), one thing I noticed with my superlight is you like it more at the end of a long hike:)

Whats the overall weight of that rifle + scope?
For me the accuracy would be fine.
A rifle like that, small and lite, shoots well and is not a burden to carry has alot of uses.
Dang another handi I need to buy.
