ATI stock on Sportster
« on: January 23, 2007, 02:41:56 PM »
Hi all, pardon if this is a re-hash of an old idea.  I was looking for a youth-style gun for my 8-year-old granddaughter to use when I came across a collapsible AR15-style stock made by ATI.  It practically mounted itself on my .17HMR Sportster.  It instantly collapses down to a LOP of only 10 inches, then just as quickly extends out to 14 inches, with several stops in between.  Kayla and I can shoot the same gun together and we're having a blast.  The bull barrel is a bit much for her, so I may pick up a .22 Sportster with the lighter barrel to reduce the overall weight, but realistically, at her size, this is pretty much a bench gun.

The original Monte Carlo stock from the Sportster is now on my Sidekick, giving me a better cheek weld for scope use, and it's only a matter of time before the original synthetic Sidekick stock winds up on my 12 gauge turkey gun to replace the god-awful "wood" that it now wears.

And the picture of a sweet little girl happily shooting what appears to be a "black rifle".....priceless! ;D

I got a .223 Youth model for my 7 & 9 year old boys.  I've had several ARs, so I wanted to make their rifle look like a single shot AR.  I had the barrel cut down to 16" and an A2 flash hider installed, put on an ATI collapsible stock, and mounted an old Redfield red dot in Warne rings.  They LOVE it.  I'll try to figure out how to download pictures from my wife's camera.

Sure thing.  I can't find my camera since our last 4x4 trip to Tellico, but my wife said she will help me out with hers.

Great pic's.  Both are demonstrating exellent trigger finger position ... away from the trigger until your ready to fire.  Great job, Dad.  Teach them well.  ;)

Thanks!  I grew up around guns, and that's the way I raise them.  We start going to the range together when they turn 4 years old.  My two year old daughter can tell me if my gun is "safe" or not when I pull back the slide on my 1911 to let her see if a round is chambered.  I got my first gun when I was 9 years old.  It is an H&R Topper Jr. 20ga.  My 9 year old carried it squirrel hunting with me just last weekend.

I appreciate the compliments.  I'm very proud of my kids.

Kerry,  nice job on the handiholic web-site.  I just showed my boys the Family page.  They were excited to see themselves on there.  Nathan said, "We're famous!"  Keep up the good work.  Your site is looking great.
