BC Recoil Pad????
« on: January 31, 2007, 07:56:42 AM »
Does anyone have an idea of what kind of a recoil pad a guy can use on the 45-70 Buffalo Classic?  Been looking all over net and haven't had any good results.  A lot of guys don't use them but I do.

Thanks ahead,

I use a limb saver grind to fit. They really take the sting out of the 45-70 especially if you load it up into the 95 Marlin range.

You'd have to cut the butt off to use a small Limbsaver grind to fit, their slip on doesn't fit well at all, it's too loose, unless you tape it on, it would fall off or be cocked to one side while hunting. I've used one for bench work, but the small Galco slip on works very well and is nice looking, should be for $55!! Cabela's has some $30 slip ons that I'd consider too.

I put a Kick Killer size medium lace up leather butt pad on mine. It fits real good, no slipping and the lace-up leather kinda adds to the looks of the gun. Cabelas has them for 29.99.

I put a medium size limbsaver slip on pad on mine then went with a lace up sling on top of that. Shellholder makes it complete. Works fine for me.

Cabelas has a slip-on called Shooters Friend that stays on and really takes the sting out of my BC.

I wanted to stay within the "buffalo classic" period look so I went with Buffalo Arms lace on recoil pad http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,846.html and Cabelas lace on cheek saver http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat602007-cat20811&id=0005794220711a&navCount=4&podId=0005794&parentId=cat20811&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=XK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601233&hasJS=true The recoil pad works fairly well with heavy loads but not for prolonged range use and heavy loads. The cheek saver works real well, especially with heavy loads. Now I have this strange attraction to the smell of leather and burnt gunpowder ;D

This is what I have on my Buffalo Classic.  It works well, even into the lever gun loads.
It's the lace on Kick Killer.  I think its around $35 at Cabelas.

Here is the one that came on a rifle that I had bought here on GB.
The one with the pad is my 38-55 that was key holeing but is ok now that I am using the right bullet.
The other one is one  of my 45-70s.  Later Tom 8) ;D

I use the small size limbsaver without issue personally.  I like it because I don't modify the wood and it doesn't create wear marks.  I am intending to pick up a decent aftermarket stock, so I can keep the originals nice.  I like the look of the steel crescent, but not the feel.  lol

I guess thats what happens when I just kind of skim through stuff instead of reading it thoroughly.  ;D
