scope for 45-70
« on: March 30, 2007, 01:24:36 AM »
I am getting ready to buy a handi-rifle in 45-70 to deer hunt with here in Mississippi.  I am considering which scope to buy.  I was leaning toward the nikon omega.  Anyone have any experience with this combo or have any suggestion?

I have a 2x7x32 Nikon Monarch on my 45/70, it's a great scope. If you want a good one for less money look at the 2x7x32 Nikon ProStaff. I have one one my 12ga slug gun and it's holding up fine. It is almost as clear as the Monarch and 1/2 the price.

Low power high field of view.
2.5 or 4 fixed power with big objective for me.
2-7would be nice to turn up for target shooting though.

Normally I use a VX-1 2x7x33 Leupold on my 45-70's...but I tried one of their VX-1 4x12x40 this week on my CVA Elite and really like it...I had plenty of eye relief and for these old tired eyes sure made a difference shooting at 200 yards...

I put a Simmons 44mag 3-10 on mine, that I bought on Ebay.  I have put approximately 40 rounds through it and it is holdig up fine.

The Bushnell Banner 1½-4½x32 is a real popular scope with the 45-70 Levergun crowd, I have one on one of my 45-70 Handis, it's a great scope, great eye relief, very clear, and from it's reputation, a very good scope for the money!
