Anyone shoot Remington UMC .223??

Anyone shot the UMC stuff through their Handi?  I got my hands on a box of WWB, but it's almost gone.  I picked up a 200 round Mega-Pack of 45 gr. JHP for $80 the other day.  Seemed like a good deal considering and can't find much .223 ammo around lately.  But that's ok.  Better our boys in Iraq hunting insurgents that me hunting woodchucks.  And I'm still saving up for that reloading press.  I'll save the brass.

  Just Curious if anyone has any experience with the UMC stuff.  Winter has returned to Mich. one final time and I'm itching to do some shooting.

I tried both the 45gr HP and the 55gr FMC and neither shot well,3 to 4 inch groups at 100yds. I reload my own and have been getting sub 1/2 groups with 27.5gr of Varget and 50gr V-Max bullets. My only suggestion is if they don't shoot well for you is to keep trying other brands until you find one your gun likes.

make sure your ammo' is all from one lot......like your 200-pack should be.

R-P brass and primers in .223 Rem' have worked Very Well for me.   i don't remember the groups i got with UMC 55 gr' fmj's, but it wasn't as bad as the other fella's results.   and the brass is worth having, as i've already said.

I bought a 200 round case the other day and it has been shooting okay for me. I'm still geting used to the rifle and not expecting much out of it yet.

The annealed brass (at least in the old yellow boxes) is great.  The accuracy was very bad, 3-4 inches in my 1:12 Handi too.


With your future reloading:  figure out what you NEED and what you WANT.  Ask around.  Then start buying things one at a time.  Don't try to buy it all at one time.

Thanks guys.  I didn't want to get my hopes too high.  Good enough for plinking and woodchuck ammo.  I hope Winchester starts making their WWB again.  I''ve already got a nice brass collection going.  .30-06, .357 Mag, .38 Spl., .223.  Just need a press and all the other gadgets.

I had no luck with the UMC out of my Contender. The WWB shot fine. The best $70 bucks I spent though, was for the Lee anniversary set, to start reloading. I use it on both my Handis and Contenders, and shoot a lot more for my money with better accuracy. Lee is to reloading like Handis are to expensive guns. They work, at a price a working man can afford.
