Some times I hate Ebay!!!!!!!!!
« on: July 20, 2007, 03:56:07 PM »
Some times I hate Ebay. I bought a Mueller 8.5-25x44AO Tactical Mil-dot from a merchant on Ebay at a good price. I payed for it 1 week ago tonight and still do not have it. I emailed them Tuesday asking if it was shipped. They emailed me back Wednesday saying that it would have gone out the following working day of the reciet of payment. I was thinking I would have it by this weekend to put on my 243 Ultra Varmint so I could hit the fields this weekend in search of Groundhogs. Well today when I got home I checked my email and it was just sent out today. So I have to go another week of Groundhog with draw due to some one not getting off their butt and going to the Post Office. I am just venting in my frustation here and can not wait to get the 243 stighted in.      Dale

Sounds to me like it was more because of the merchant not getting the thing shipped. Don't see how eBay could be blamed for that ...

Sometime it's worth a little more expense to deal with reputable dealers. ;)

As a seller on e-bay I dread nothing more than buyers like Let's do the math shall we. You paid for an item on Friday ( late in the evening) a week ago that's 7 days. Now even if it got to the post office on Sat it woudn't go anywhere till Monday that's 5 days. Now if the seller's like me and has to work on Sat and monday and drops the package off at the post office after work on Monday it won't go anywhere till Tuesday, that's 4 days. USPS priority mail runs an AVERAGE of 2 to 3 days, so that's one day

I have found that pretty much 10days from the time you hit pay for item on ebay is about when it usually gets dropped at my house. I'm more upset with the Post office as the last 2 items I have sent thru them took 14 and 15 days. Kurt

Do everybody a favor and wait a week and a half BEFORE you start with the e-mails
I am not trying to start a peeing match here. I would like you to know I have sold more than 200 items on Ebay myself. I make it a point to put it in the mail the day after I am paid to get it to the customer ASAP. If he had put it in the mail Sat. I would have had a real chance of it getting here by this weekend. Just because It is the weekend dose not mean that the mail is not moving. If you ship something Sat. it will go out Sat. and not Monday. That is not the point though. I payed for it Last Friday and it went out today. So you tell me who is wrong here. I sure don't think it's me.    Dale

 WOAH!

I apologise I didn't catch that little tidbit the first time I read your response.

That kinda changes the whole context for me. So yes that does stink and there is no excuse for it.
Unless the seller has a REALLY good excuse I would think long and hard about leaving negative feedback. Something I've personally never had to do in 97 items bought and sold.

But I bet if you've sold 200+ items you've had buyers like I described above.

Out of 200 plus sales. I have had only a couple problems. I do my business on Ebay like I do my carpenter work. I try very very very hard to make people happy. If they are not happy I am not happy. Really the only problems I have had on Ebay as a seller is when I put a fixed rate of shipping on something let's say $5.00 and I get a customer that lives only one state away and it only cost me $2.25 to ship it to them. Then when they receive their item and email me that I ripped them off on shipping because it only cost me $2.25 to ship it to them. Now that is wrong because when I listed the auction it clearly states Shipping will be $5.00 fixed. There have been times it cost me $7.00 to ship the same item. I don't ask the customer to send me another $2.00 because it is fixed.   Krochus I do accept your apolgy and no hard feeling here.   Dale

amen to all

I give good customer service at work and on ebay.  I like to use the old Golden Rule.  I don't, however, believe that the customer is always right.  Most times there is just a lack of communication.  Our customers at Wal-Mart don't understand how things work and once it is explained then most calm down.  I hate having people walk away mad.

I am always glad to have someone ship the next day on ebay.  Most are pretty quick.  Amazon's used book merchants good, but my problem there is that everyone wants to use Parcel Post or Media Mail.

I hope that you get that scope soon and that everything is as it should be.  That horror show with the Boyd's stocks pawn shop guy.....

I don't do any business on e-bay...I guess I am old fashion that way...but...I just can't  get into feeding frenzies on items I cannot actually look at first hand...I much prefer going to real auctions where I can look over an item...and so I can actually laugh right at some of the folks going goo-goo over real junk :D :D :D :D :D :D...but for some reason..I just can't get excited about buying any thing on the "Bay"...maybe if I cooked up some funnel cakes and spread some straw around the computer.... naw...it just wouldn't be the same...;) ;)

I got one of those the other day from a buyer who bought a sight set, My positive feedback from the buyer read this.
Quote
Seller charged $5 shipping...actual cost was 97 cents

Cheesed me completely off! So since feedback had already been left I wrote the guy a nasty little e-mail.
Quote
Thanks a lot for the feed back cheapskate! You know those envelopes that I shipped your sight in aren't free and neither is the gas to take your item to the post office. AND did you NOT know about the shipping charge of $5 BEFORE you bid? Did my auction listing have the phrase "Buyer pays actual shipping costs" anywhere in it?

If you think $5 is too high for shipping let's see you hire a complete stranger to make a special trip to the post office for you for less than $5

Needless to say a response has not been forthcoming

Well said. I do have one negative feedback because of the same thing. They say hind sight is 20 20 I should have refrained from saying anything to this person. I received a neg. feedback for a couple bucks.      Dale

My first EBAY experience I was misled & I know this doesn't pertain to all sellers so please don't be offended. I won't buy off of ebay because of this. But what it really boils down to is. When you buy something, you want it NOW!! Me too. It sucks waiting, it like kids counting days till Christmas!

I love E-bay, but I Hate the USPS, 5 - 15 days for Priority mail is the norm, Customer Service is a Joke, and the prices keep going up ! In the last 5 years they have totally gone to hell. It's time for Major Changes or a private company to take it over. I have had multi Lost packages that Never came, and a few Priority that showed they were delivered, To a Totally Dif ZIP !

I expect an item to be shipped in a reasonable amount of time, generally Working days from the time I pay, some are Much faster, some lag behind, but that' the nature of the beast. ~Ace~

I have been a seller/buyer on EBAY for seven years. I have been able to retain a 100% feedback.

Not because I haven't had problems!!!  One of my first sales was for a SLR camera body. It did not work and the top center of the description I wrote that. I wrote it large and in red type.  It sold for something like $8-9. I got bad feed back but not neg because he said the description that the camera didn't work could have been clearer. Point is, you cannot ever please all the people all the time.

One thing I will add. Your wording on shipping needs to be clear. Its NOT shipping. Its shipping AND HANDLING. That will cover you for additional fees that are above the price on the label. Also, if you ship with USPS and print your own labels at home...there are NO FEES printed on the label!!!  I have had NOTHING but STELLAR experiences with the USPS. The stock set I just got from Matt P is testament. He shipped Tuesday from Montana. I had them Thursday in Connecticut.

Customer service is key. Just like momma always told you, treat people as you would like to be treated and COMUNACATE!!!!

I've bought & sold on ebay for 5 years, still have 100% rating.Just sold something on tuesday after postoffice was closed,so shipped on wed and they got it fri.Now if Dale had bought something from me  and paid on friday, and I couldn't mail it out on sat I would have emailed him and told him I would ship on monday. And on top of that would have sent the tracking number to him on monday evening.I don't blame anyone for being pissed if I waited a week and item was just mailed I would not be happy. Its all about customer serviice, but ya can't blame ebay for that.
Can't wait till you get it Dale,be waiting to see how you like it and how it does.

Well said Tim. My father retired Post Master of the verona Pa Post office. He died 10 years ago and my mother is still collecting his benefits. They have some of the best health insurance out there. If it had not been for such good insurance she would also be dead.        Dale

Dale,

Your father and I have a lot in common, only I didn't die 10yrs ago, I survived cancer in '97 after successful surgery and the good medical plan allowed me to retire from the USPS 5 yrs ago. :)

Glad your mom is doing ok. ;)

thanks,

Tim thanks but my mother is far from ok. She was given 2 years to live 1 1/2 ago. She really is in bad shape and know she will not wake up some morning soon. She also has been bed ridden for a couple years. The only good thing is I have had a couple years to prepare for it as my dad was gone in a couple weeks.          Dale

Sorry to hear that Dale, hope she goes without pain, my father-in-law died of bone cancer and lived way too long with pain and suffering.  :( My father is still alive and fairly healthy at 81, but with dementia and altzheimers, he's far from being with us, so there are different degrees of ill health that we face both personally and emotionally. My grandfather lived only 69yrs but he was healthy right up until he went in for surgery and was gone in a week when his kidneys quit, he suffered very little.

I'm sorry but I just had a huge problem with the usps. Customer service is a joke, next to impossible to talk to a live person, then that person has an attitude with me. It took 22 days for a package to get here in Chicago from New York? 22 days! And the tracking information was never updated so I could not tell what was going on and when I called they would not even look into the matter until after 14 days had passed. Even after I placed a complaint and they said I would hear from them within the next two days, no one ever called me. I thought I was completely screwed after three weeks and one day it showed up at my door.

Folks are quick to point out a problem with mail delivery, but they never mention all the thousands of deliveries they've received in the past that were trouble free and for pennies in postage to boot!! When you consider the 212 billion pieces of mail delivered each year by the USPS, how relatively few misdeliveries/problems there really are.  I got to deal will too damn many ignorant customers in over 32yrs of USPS service, 99% of delivery issues are caused by improper addresses or improper packaging on the part of the mailer. If I had a nickel for every misdelivery I researched that turned out to be the mailer's fault or misinformation from the mailer, I'd be wealthy!! There is no tracking on delivery confirmation mail, the only tracking available is for Express mail, delivery confirmation provides just that, confirmation of delivery, it usually provides time of mailing if accepted at a retail unit and sometimes an arrival scan or scan at a bulk mail facility.

The USPS gets the blame for waaaay to many delayed deliveries, exactly like this thread is about, the mailer said it was mailed, when in fact it hadn't been. If the mailer uses Click-N-Ship, which is the USPS' online shipping, a delivery confirmation shipping label is generated and the electronic transmission of the mailing is entered into the system as being electronically transmitted, but not necessarily actually in the hands of the USPS. If that item gets accepted by the USPS and scanned, there will be another entry in the system showing acceptance, if that acceptance scan doesn't happen, there's no proof it actually got mailed or when it went in the mail system.

The problem is that any wait is to long for a new toy. ;D
Even if i pay extra and buy at my gun shop the drive home is to far.
Then I have to wait for the weekend to play with it.

I recently had to wait an "eternity" for a fore arm. ;)

P.S. If it won't fit in an envelope I ship UPS/FedEx If it's over 50# I send it truck.

Did you call them back and let them know you got the missing package...? They need to know.... Let them continue finding out why it took so long to get to you.....

Yes I did call. I live in Chicago and our postal service here was rated the worst in the country. I'm not trying to put all postal workers down quickdtoo, sorry if that was how I came across. It's just that here if you are not a minority you will have a very hard time getting a postal job and it seems like they screen for the most ignorant people to work the counters. I have had eyes rolled at me for walking up to a counter to send a package like I was interrupting her nail filing  to do her job. And I understand about losing your patience with an unruly customer but I assure you that is not me.

You are kidding, right? When you say actual shipping cost, then what is it? How much is the envelope? 50 cents? Gas to the post office? How much is that? another 50 cents? You must know that cost exactly by now. What is it? And that is assuming you went to the post office for only one package, and weren't going there or driving by for other reasons. Funny how the actual cost equals $5.

That is all a cost of doing business. The actual cost is the postage only.

As far as  a stranger going to the post office, it's apples and oranges. You profit from selling things. It's your business. No wonder this country is going to hell in a handbasket.
