Receiver sight for Henry Lever
« on: October 27, 2007, 07:32:23 AM »
Does anyone know if there's a receiver sight (peep) made for a Henry lever? I just bought my youngest son a Henry youth lever .22 and he has an astigmatism problem with his eyes. I thought maybe this might help him see what he's aiming at and I'm trying to steer clear of scoping it if at all possible for now.

Well, you didn't mention which model Henry rifle - other than "youth", and I'm not familiar with the particular model - there's Henry rifles, and then there's Henry rifles.  ;)

If you're talking about one of the brassies, I don't know what to tell you, since they use a barrel-mounted scope mount ILO receiver grooves & I've never seen how the "BrassLite" takes to D/T for a Winchster 94 type side peep.
If you're talking one of the blued Henry's with the scope-grooved receiver cover, then Williams makes several Models, in two heights, two with Target knobs - that clip into the scope mount grooves.  If  you go with any of their high line-of-sight models, then a higher front sight is also gonna be needed to zero the rifle.

They are the: 5D-AG, 5D-GR, FP-AG, and FP-AG-TK.  The 5D peeps cost about half of the FoolProofs, but they don't have the click adjustments,either.

JMO, But I think the Brassie's cantilever scope mount would put any of these peep too high for any but a custom front sight - very high.
A tang sight could aways be mounted, if it's a Brassie.

Thanks for the info Rangr44. That is the model though. It's a Henry lever youth model .22 (blued) with the 3/8" milled receiver.
Thanks again

Note on this thread;  The original post is dated 2007 and some of the latest replies are dated 2011.  Standard equipment changes over time.  Readers should be aware that recent H001Y rifles came with front sights that were integral with the fore barrel/magazine band which made changes to the front sights a rather involved undertaking.  The receiver-mounted rear sights that I have looked at lately all require a line of sight well above the original equipment front sight.  For that reason (and others) I have opted for a tang-mounted peep and will probably epoxy a fiber-optic bead to the top of the original equipment front blade.

We understand the reciever height issue and have recommended the Barrel Mount Peep in most cases because it works so well with the front sight.

Our new sight (still to be released) that will fit in the new sight mounting holes on Octagonal guns, will be very low and possibly work with the factory fronts.

Does anyone know the thread size and pitch of the holes located under the rear sight leaf on newer Henrys?

Skinner;
How 'bout a Skinner Sights tang-mounted peep to extend the sight radius on a H001Y?!?!
