Dug her out of the closet Rem 580
« on: March 09, 2008, 09:50:12 AM »
She's a former P.A.L. rifle that wasn't maintained at all let alone adequately.Got her for $50 2 years ago.The stock was horrible and the bore had a depression form 4-8:00 as is common with 22 barrels that have  seen ALOT of rounds. However she still shoots 10 shot 1/2 inch 25 yard groups with open sights. I refinished the stock and mounted a BSA Platinum 6x24 AO, got that for $70 , coulnd't pass on it.Cant wait to test her with the observatory on board.I'm thinking of having some work done on her, namely a match grade barrel. What's the general opinion of the 580? Her trigger is perfection and the action is bretty beefy and seriously over built for a .22. Is it worth it?

My 580 is one of my favorite rifles, shoots like a laser, easy to carry, goes bang every time.

I really like the 500 series of Remington 22's.  They really are great guns, i just wish Rem. had come up with better magazines. (read steel)

Remington made up several different model numbers, but for the most part the guns are the same actions with different bbls, and some other changes.  Most (but not all) of the parts will interchange between the models.

I have several of them in different configurations, but i like my LH 541-S the best...

It's my go to 22lr, and is very accurate.  The 541-S' are the "cream of the crop" and like new original ones are bringing obscene prices!  (mine isn't origional)

All of these models are becoming collectible, and prices of them are steadily going up!

Double 30:  I have a 582 barrel sitting here, outside is a lot of fairly heavy pitting on the muzzel 2/3 but the bore and the part that goes in the action looks very good.  Some heavy sanding on the front of the barrel and a new crown would you set you up.  Free if you pay to ship it.  PM me.  Larry
