Pictures worthy of a calendar---2009
« on: March 16, 2008, 04:19:40 AM »
Well lets try this again and start collecting picture worth of a calendar.  There are a couple provisions on whether there will be a calendar this year.

First there is my impending retirement.  I am a bit reluctant to start on any new projects right now...Quite frankly after March 27th I have no idea where I will live or if I will have internet access...I will, but may be headed back to dial-up.  I may be busy starting up a new business and that may take a lot of my time. Time I won't have to work on the calandar. I need to be looking for a house and a job, not playing on the net.

Second, I will have to check with Graybeard and see if adequate numbers of calendars were sold to warrant the time to produce another calender.  The proceeds from the sales of the calendar go to support this board. Matt the Webmaster has to put the calendars together and if the return doesn't justify his time it won't happen.  And, the calendar must be made and sold via the  GBO E-store or it can't be sold on this board. For me this is a non-negotiable item. GBO provides a place to hang out, we need to help pay the bills.

Regardless we are going to start collecting pictures.  But it's very important to understand that even though we will have a collection of  pictures worthy of a calendar, no calendar may produced.  But at least we will have a data base to work form, if I get time?

So lets get started.

Read the photo taking instructions at Tips for taking better pictures

Start taking pictures of your cannons and post them in this topic.  Pictures and title only no narrative, no replies and no comments in this topic. I'll edit  and delete any posted.  These must be new pictures and not entered in any previous cannon calendar post.

If you have what you think is a good picture but but don't know how to edit it, post it.  I will contact you off line and help you. If you post a picture that needs some work, I'll drop you a PM or email and suggest how to improve it.

Try to work something in to show the scale of you cannon.  We use the Powder can a lot but we don't want this calendar to be an advertisement for  GOEX.  We want to show off our guns. So unless you can work the powder can in as an unobtrusive part of the background leave it out.

The pictures must be of your cannon.  Static or in action.

In September, I may open a post with a poll and we will select the pictures to be used on the Calendar.

Post the picture here on the  board in the usual format  576 pix wide at 72 ppi.  Save the picture on your computer at a higher resolution and larger size---best full size as it come out of the camera.  Then if your picture is selected I will have you send me your high resolution  picture for  posting in the calendar. It's better to use a photohosting site like https://www.gboreloaded.com/mhp/ for posting and linking you pictures for this post.  You want your picture to jump out at people when they scroll through them.  That just doesn't happen with thumbnails from direct upload pictures.  You do not have to use a photohosting sight to take part,  you can still use direct upload.

Don't forget you have to type words in order to post a picture. So just type in a title and post your picture. Remember I will delete any extra comments or narrative....

Again, remember right now this is just a collection pictures worthy of a calendar and a calendar may not be published.

WELCOME to the board!

Is that a NY license tag?  Good lookin' cannon.  We'd love to see some action shots too!  Start a new thread on it.

The piece of lint on my last submission bothered me so I fixed it and decided to repost with a few more pictures.

Yes I do have a thing for red backrounds I guess because it is a nice contrast to polished brass

             7 Inch Treble-Banded Brooke, Breech In-Process

Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!
