Ye haw! New 357 barrel
« on: March 30, 2008, 01:52:36 PM »
I shipped my handi on march 6th.  Last friday, I was off work, working around the house.  About noon, I was finishing up in the yard and the big brown good cheer truck stopped in front of the house.  Sure enough it was my gun.  22 day turn-around.  After a quick cleaning and slapping a williams peep on it and I was off to the range.  Got a 6 hole 357-180 grain mold over at Cast Boolits and had a bunch loaded up.  These loads will do 1135 fps out of my 6" gp100 and did 1543 fps out of my handi.  After getting it sighted, it did about 1 1/2" at 50 yds.  Didn't think that was too bad considering the factory blade looks about as wide as a 2x4 at that range.  I know that Junior got about 1700 fps out of his leveraction with this boolit, but thougt this was good for the first time.  May have to try a low power scope.

That barrel is a blast ;), shot mine again today.  One of my favorites.   22 day turnaround is good.  Guess it's time to get a couple of frames off for more barrels.  DP.

I did a straight 4X scout mount on my .357 and love it.  Fits me perfectly, and the cross hairs are right there when the rifle comes up.  That front sight is wide enough to cover my barn door!  I have to scope all my rifles because of my 67 year old eyes.  I won't scope my traditional muzzleloaders, and consequently have just about given up shooting them.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.
