Down side to a light trigger
« on: May 31, 2008, 12:17:33 PM »
I had a little observation the other day while shooting a light and a heavy trigger pull Handi.  When there is very little tension on the trigger from you finger (light pull) you are much less likely to pull the trigger all the way to the stop so the transfer bar can stay fully engauged.  With the standard weight pull it is nearly impossiable not to pull the trigger clear to the stop while shooting because you are pulling fairly hard on the trigger and when it breaks it goes to the stop every time.  The lighter you make the trigger pull the more you have to work at pulling it through to the stop after it breaks.  Larry

My 17 HMR Sleeper with 1.06" barrel has a 6oz. trigger which seems to have no problem with the transfer bar. the rifle fires as soon as the trigger breaks and follow through does not include pull the trigger back any more. I taped a stop in the trigger guard to limit overtravel to as close to zero as possible and by gum it fires fine. A good man built this gem!

Sure something to think about.  Might be why some of my groups aren't the best they could be.  Thanks trotterlg, I'll have to use that one along with some other reasons why I messed up a good group ;D.  Does make sense, and Tim would tell ya to check the FAQ's! ;)  DP.
