I live within 1/4 mile of where this happened and my wife's parents live right across the street. We heard it go off that night, was much louder than anything else that evening. The house in question has a hole slightly smaller than a golf ball right through the second floor, dead center, almost like a sniper with a huge bore rifle was aiming at anyone standing up on that floor!
I talked with someone from the local fire department. The "cannon" in question was made with pipe. It was, for lack of a better term, a large open-ended pipe bomb, made from a pipe
way too weak to take the pressure!
Yes Double D it was in Thurston County . Actually within just a few miles of this one.
Yep, Little Rock is about 3-4 miles away, depending on where you count the "city" limits. Each town is small, Rochester is actually quite large in map size, but it's all mostly rural, former (and current) farmland with a "downtown" that grape shot could reach both ends with a light load. Little Rock's "downtown" would take about 5 miles to walk from each end.
One of the biggest problems we face in this area is the presence of "Indian" fireworks from the nearby reservation just outside Rochester. You can buy darned near
anything there (even stuff illegal in WA state), so people get 'creative' sometimes and put together some pretty nasty stuff...
