New Scope Mount
« on: September 21, 2008, 09:42:42 AM »
Awhile ago I mentioned that I had a barrel at EGW Gunsmithing and they were using it to make a mount for our handi rifle.

I got my barrel and mount back this week, its aluminum, weaver/picatinny rail, 0 MOA, orginally they were going to make a 0 and a 15 MOA mount but they for some reason they opted for the 0 instead.

Here it is.

What did you have them do to the barrel, and how did that turn out?

So far, I've gotten along fine with the factory base, but it's nice to have options.

They didnt do anything to the barrel.  They used it for dimenions, hole spacing and barrel diameter.  Its a pretty cool mount, on the bottom side, where it is cantilevered out they stamped Handi.  Camera isnt that great so the pic I took of it didnt come out.

Are you removing fixed sites and adding this for scope related reasons, or are you replacing the original one that comes on a Handi? -g

Also I am not too sure whether I like that thinned out over hang.
It has to be a very long scope to make good use of it. I installed two single blocks on my two rifle they are both solid on the barrel with two
screws each.

For the most solid mount, the steel Warne Maxima Tactical Picatinny M681M gets my vote.  ;)

Couldn't see the rail in the photo. Only the 6.5-55 shows up on my end.
Gave it a little brightness and contrast...now I see it!  ;D

John, I got my M681M from TGS as listed in the FAQs, but they're out now, it's available from several sources as is the M981M weaver style steel base, it's also available in gloss and silver as shown in the FAQs.

Thanks Bill!! ;D

;D ;D ;D I just happened to have that pic from the 6.5-55 thread, and it's the only pic I have of the M681M base mounted, so I shared it, true, it's centered on the 6.5x55 marking since that's the topic it was taken for, maybe I'll get to shoot it sometime soon...even, but that's another topic too!  ;)

I'm sorry about the highjack dk17hmr. :-[

In that case in my effort to get my scope lower I stumbled across this on a Tracker II 20 ga. we purchased used. It is the Weaver 62 base with a lower height profile. This set up is perfect for me and comes to point well vs the higher scope rails that everyone offers that leave me just a bit off target when shouldered. The pic shows a Weaver 1-3x20mm mounted with Burris Z high rings. Might even have gotten away with mediums. I think this would only work with the 20mm compact scopes.

I picked up a 62 for a Topper 30-30 and am trying to see if I can cut off some of the length of the rail and drill new holes in it for a NEF/H&R barrel that is already drilled and tapped. The existing holes don't quite line up but are close enough to mess it up for new holes to be drilled in the rail. Time to start experimenting. BTW on the Tracker II since no holes were drilled in the barrel the Weaver 62 was easy to use.

Thanks guys for posting all the rail possibilities. Just thought I would add mine also.
