Poll: .17 Remington Fireball ?
« on: January 11, 2009, 05:32:09 AM »
H&R is considering offering a .17 Rem Fireball accessory barrel and possibly a complete rifle later, any interest?  ;D

Be sure to cast a vote on the poll at the top of the page, don't just reply, H&R has eyes on this forum and they may not take the time to read all of the replies.

I don't see the point in it as I have a .204...but being it is a H&R and probly short lived I'd have to have one anyway .I'm in. Kurt

Also I'd have more intrest in complete gun than an accessory bbl I just don't trust the new team and there is way to many fees with having one fit. I'd rather do it myself.

Count me in, I was just debating the 17 Rem Fireball, .204 Rug, & .223 Rem for varmints.  Picked up a pro-hunter encore (used, locally) with .223 barrel (new), .308 barrel, & 460 S&W barrel.  I really liked the looks of the 17 Rem Fireball, so if I could get a Handi in that cartridge, I would.  I would want the complete rifle too.

i am sure H&R has their reasons, but wouldnt it be a smarter business move to just make a basic magnum , like a 7mm or .300 like they planned to last year?  i mean, if a 7mm remmy wont get any interest, probably the most popular mag ever, do they really expect the .17 to do any better?  that said, id probably get one, it would make an awesome fox cartridge ;D

I agree, I have a 17 HRM, 22 Hornet, 221 Fireball,204 Ruger and a 223.   Dont need a 17 Fireball. But I cant wait to get one of those either.  When will the word come out so that I can order one.

I've been considering getting a .17 centerfire for a truck gun, that being said, it would be the perfect setup to accompany my .308 handi :D

I am good for at least one. I would love another 17 but not enough to spend the money on a bolt, but if it was avaliable in a Handi, I would have no problem picking one up. I would, however, prefer to buy a whole rifle as opposed to a barrel. I guess that I could find a used reciever to send in if need be though.

Count me in too. I would rather it be a 221 Fireball, but this is as close as it will more than likely get. I would hope they base it on the 4140 steel rather than the softer rim fire steel. ;) I could see them just taking their 17 HMR barrels and chamber them for the 17 Fireball.

I'm not much on handi rifles really owning only two and will never consider a barrel to add to a frame but as much as I love my Model Seven in .17 Fireball if any round would tempt me to buy a new handi rifle it would be the .17 Fireball. My Model Seven in it is easily the most accurate rifle I own and so far it has fired only factory ammo it is so accurate with it I've not yet bothered to even try to work up a reload for it.

Those who saw it in action at the PD shoot last year or heard of it should know what I mean. It is awesome.

Bill, the rifle shoots only as well as the person behind it.  If it shot awesomely, it was because you did.  Pretty good for an old dude, and a good rifle. ;)

I had a Model 7 in 6mm.  It was a fine, accurate rifle, but I didn't like the way it killed deer.  Except for head and neck shots, they ran off.  I got them, but it was a pain in the butt finding them and dragging them out.  The big bores dump them where they stand.  No problems.

I'd be up for a .17 Fireball as an adder to my .17HMR.  Couldn't use it at night here, but it would fit well between the HMR and the .22-250.

Mine easily stays under a half inch at 100 yards with factory ammo. The bullet moves out at 4000 fps so is so flat that with reasonable winds anything inside 300 yards is hit as if by lightning without even thinking of how far or close it is. The tiny little pill begins to run out of steam way out there but in calm conditions you can change that to around 400 yards. Ya pull the trigger and here the plop of bullet hitting instantly.

That sounds awesome GB. I really like the looks of those rifles too. I see it comes in the Predator and the CDL versions - that would be a hard decision. The CDL has that nice traditional look, but I really like the Mag contour barrel on the Predator. Either would make a great little companion rifle to my Rem .223 Tactical.

Mine is the Predator. I have them in .17 Fireball and .223. I had one in .204 Ruger but ended up trading it for the .223 as I'm already set up well for it and would have had to buy everything for the .204.

Another vote for yes.

I'll buy the complete rifle when it's available. That's great news.

If there's not enough interest in accessory barrels, I doubt there will be a complete rifle. Distributors must order rifles, barrels can be ordered by us!

If I didn't already have one I would probablly buy one.  Success will depend on the quality of barrel they use on them.  I had one I chambered in 17 Remington and I could never get it to shoot, I have a stub project with a clerk barrel and it shoots very well.  The .17's are kind of fickel, so if they do a good job, don't cut the chambers too deep and don't give them long throats, they will have a winner.  Larry
