Wow! 357 maxi range report

Got to shoot the maxi today.  Threw together 9 cartridges with 3 different loads.  All shooting 158gr 38spcl copper plated FP bullets and AA1680. 

1. 24.1grs
2. 24.3
3. 24.6

Even with my limited shooting skill the 24.6 shot a .518 group at 100!  Who says the maxi doesn't like 158 gr. cheap bullets!

 Congrats on 357, Get Maxie Load some 180 grain pills and about 25.0 grains
 of AA1680 See how she does You can knock that buck down with it .

Thanks all,

I have some 180gr Hornady SSPs and some 180gr silhouette that shoot good, but were not as easy to find the sweet spot.

  I too have had excellent results with AA1680, sparked with a small rifle primer with a number of bullets. The Hornady 180 SSP, Hornady 180 XTP, Speer 170GD, Rem 180 HP and Nosler 180 silo to name but a few.  :o ;D

GREAT group!!!!  MOST, of the 158's are better suited to MAG velocities if your shooting big game with them. The 158 XTP FP is one exception. If you must use the 158 HP's keep the velocities with in a couple hundred of what the Mag can do. Otherwise you will get VERY marginal penetration and varmint bullet like expansion. Just talking big game here now. Targets and varmints obviously, won't know the difference.  ;)

Cw, Have you taken any game with the Nosler 180 silo. bullets yet?  I got a screaming deal on 500 of them, and wonder if they are any good for game at 357 max or 35 rem speeds.  DP

No game yet..... 
  I have a couple hundred and they shoot very well. According to everything I have read, they should be good @ maxi velocities.

Good Shooting - there are "varmint" rifles that do not shoot that well ;) Looks like you have a dandy pest control/short range varmint rifle to me there with those loads. Good Luck and very Good Shooting ;D
