Cover Your Ugly Nakedness
« on: June 19, 2009, 03:58:11 PM »
Are YOU a little short on cash, and have an ugly/naked dovetail slot, that you don't know what to do with ?    ;D

Do ya have any old longleaf rear sights laying around ?

Well, pick out one that has a shape you like, flip it upside-down, and trace the outline on an index card - then cut out the shape to make a template.

Make sure that what you cut out fits exactly

Flip the cutout over/reverse it, so it extends toward the old sighting leaf, and temporarily tape it in place for marking the sight body.

Mark the new, rearward clone you just made of the nose shape.

Clamp the dovetail end in a vise, and cut off the longleaf end beyond your marks with a hacksaw (whatever)

Grind or file the excess down to your mark(s)

File BOTH sides - then cold blue/oil it

Install, and you'll have dressed up thet naked dovetail !
