45 LC carbine sight question

Hello everyone-----I was fortunate to come across what I thought was a good deal on a NIB classic carbine 45 LC.  Everything looks good on the rifle --
locks up tight,no wiggle,sights and scope mount holes seem to line up-----it looks and feels great. I havent been to the range yet,but hope to assemble
dies and components soon to get started.

I would like to avoid putting on a scope,but my eyes refuse to focus on open sights anymore---- I had the opportunity to look through peep sights
on a friends '03 Springfield and I could focus fine through them.

My question concerning the sights--- Do the peep sights really help with weak eyes or was that me hoping I was seeing better? Also, after checking the FAQ's concerning sights, I think I might try the Williams WGRS sight. How do you guys that use them like them? Also, I'm still not sure about the front sight.
Did you have any luck keeping the factory sight or have to change it out also?

I would appreciate any input or info that ya'll can share.

my experiance with the williams peep is you have to change the
front sight because its too low.
you can go to brownells.com and look at the sight calculator
to get an idea.

Have the same problem,need a site that is closer and a peep if it will work,took off the one on my BC. and it seems ok but my 45LC has a tall front site so even all the way down I think it will shoot high at 50yrds.have to get to the range to find out.also thinking about Smiths ladder site,but might have the same problem.

Put the little peep on the back (you eyes will thank you) and if the front sight is too low epoxy 'something' on top to make it higher. It will work great.

You can buy a dovetail riser for your front sight which will bring it up enough if you want to use a peep sight.

Thanks for the replies on the peep sight question. I believe that the sight height calculator would give me the info I need, but I haven't
seen a height listed (yet) on the WGRS sight to compare it to the factory sight. May have to order the rear sight and see where it shoots
with the factory front, was hoping to get everything in one order. This will be my first attempt at changing out sights,so I thought it would be
a good idea to check with ya'll before jumping in.

I put the WGRS on mine at first and changed the front sight to a .570" firesight. I could barely get it onto the paper with that setup, it was shooting way too high. I ended up putting the factory buckhorn back on and it works fine for me with the firesight, I can shoot 1" groups at 50 yards if I do my part. I may revisit the peep at some point, though. I used the Brownell's sight height calculator and came up with the 0.250" riser from Midway along with a 0.540" front dovetail sight should work just about right with the WGRS but check my math before you order anything because I haven't tried that setup to see if it actually works yet.

Doublebass73------Thanks for the additional info--I'll check things out with the height calculator---that would be great if the riser would work and keep the factory front for now. I would have been happy with leaving it all original, but no way can I use the factory rear--as I said in the original post, I could see
a bunch better through the peep, and I think the WGRS will work really well for me.

Once again, thanks for the help--the members on this forum are the best!

i got my 45LC carbine barrel and my caliper right here......according to my measuring and figgerin you need an overall height of .640....that's figuring the peep height at .480....the peep is in the middle of it's elevation range.....the factory front sight measures .465 above the barrel......you still need .175 more.....if you go to skinnersights.com you'll find a post type front sight that fits a barrel dovetail that measures .650 for 18 bucks
