New Thumbhole--New Paint Job
« on: February 15, 2010, 04:40:39 AM »
I'm like a proud new dad.  I love the stock and the paint turned out better than I could have hoped for.  What do ya think?

Thanks guys.  It was fun.  I still have to matte clear coat it to remove any possible glare but all of the colors are done.  Now I just have to sight it in and start killing yotes.

I have never posted before, but a reader. I really like your paint job. I finished mine a couple of weeks ago so will add a pic of it now. At 100 yds it groups 3/8" with rem 45 rem white label, of the tailgate of my truck. Keep on painting them.

That looks really good too.  I decided to get mine in 25-06 for the extra range/energy it gives.  IMHO, it is a flatter shooting, more useful across a greater range of game caliber.

It is just the soft rubber one that comes from the factory.  Nothing special.

It appears to be the same or similar to the pad that comes on the new style monte carlo stocks, it's not as nice as a Limbsaver, but much nicer than the old pads.

skilforce - you aren't by chance a Ted Nugent fan are you?  Seems he had an early Bronco all painted up in a similar scheme - looked really nice.

Both the camo paint jobs in the above look pretty good to me, BTW.

I saw good old "kill em and grill em" in Naperville, IL about 5 years ago during the annual Rib Fest.  His stage was all military, had 8-10 different guns on it, and during one of his songs a "Sadam" rose from the stage and he shot it with an arrow.  His music is OK but his constitutional standing and viewpoint is exceptional.  Regardless, I had never seen his truck.  I just like tiger stripes and found a good way (IMO) to do it.

skiforce,

Is that a duracoat tiger stripe kit that you did it with?  I have been wanting to do one, just no time.

Cool paint job.  Started to go that way on my daughters but changed my mind.

I was kinda hoping it would be like Remington's Super Cell one they have on the 870's stock and the ones they are selling by themselves..Hmm..I wonder if it can be fitted with one..cause it sure takes the sting out of 12ga slugs..Any way..very nice looking rifle

I did this with masking tape only.  I got the idea while laying in bed one night.  I took a razor to a roll of tape in random paterns going in a circle around the tape.  Next, I just wrapped the gun at random distances.  Then I sprayed one color (tan) and I unwrapped the gun and wrapped it again.  Then I sprayed the whole thing green and sprayed diagonal brown stripes for some extra color.  Finally, I unwrapped the whole thing and sprayed matte clear over the whole thing.  The first wrapping took forever but now that I know how to do it, it is simple.  I think the key is to not wrap it in any particular order.  To let the randomness lay the tape as it wants to.  I plan on doing my Pardner, my sidekick, and my 22lr S&W 22a.  The best part is they will be in the same patern but will all look different.

That is a sweet job. I did the same on a Mosin. Basicly as you did with the tape. I didn't change the direction of the stripes though. Nice job.
