Ring in the Spring
« on: February 18, 2010, 05:16:18 PM »
I don't know about you guy but for me this has been a pretty dreary winter. I need to do something to break out of the doldrums.   So here is what I have come up with.

March 20 is the first day of spring and a Saturday.

Every body get you cannons out and dusted off.  Get some  rounds made up for all you cannons and get ready to shoot.

Then at 2 PM Eastern/1 PM Central/12 Noon Mountain/11 AM Pacific with all you guns on line, every one fire a volley!

South Paw and I are planning now for the big day!  Are you going to join us?

That's the best idea that Mike and I have heard in a long, long, time.  With that date in mind, I believe we will have enough time to make some "special" concrete rounds for the Monster mortar and allow them enough time to cure properly.  Since we plan on firing our 'Ring in the Spring' salute from the ground and NOT on the trailer, we figure we could attempt a 600 yard shot with two and a half pounds of Goex Cannon grade powder.  In order to see what a 60 degree elevation trajectory really looks like, we will make a small smoke generator of a safe type to leave a nice trail for the movie.  Mike has the flu, but not pig flu, some other kind and I have been out of action with a heavy chest cold, so maybe in 3 days we will blow the dust off our tools and get back to it!  Sure hope so.

What a fine idea!!  20 March 2010 or bust!

Yes , And they are nice sounding . Need another  paint job as they rub on each other when ringing.
Salvage bottles here cost $12 each . The distributer does not like to sell old reject bottles because of liability reasons. Never can tell when some nut will try to make a Cannon out of one .  :o
An oath in blood was signed that I would cut the bottoms off.  ;)
I took a picture with to the distributor of the completed wind chime .
That may get me a discount on the next batch.
I had one person willing to pay $5000.00 for a set like that installed in their yard.  Stand would have to be new material . The stand for mine was some thing I picked up @ a farm auction 30 years ago . Never quite figgured what to do with it till the ringing target idea came up . Wife nixed that idea .  >:(

I hoping if enough of us fire off all at once we can create a back draft and suck some globally warm air up here...my greater concern is that the concussion from firing and the follow on impact of projectiles might start an earthquake...George, are you on the east side or the west side of the San Andreas fault?

Got up this morning and it was clear skies. Decided to load up the mortar on my Radio Flyer wagon and walk the 100 yards down the block to where I can shoot. Walked back out with the wagon and the global warming is falling from the heavens. Oh well, maybe tomorrow  LOL.

I am on the west side, maybe 25 miles southwest of its nearest trace.

So if you fire the big cannon, could you touch-off the big earthquake?   ;)

I suppose it might accelerate the occurence of a large quake on the San Andreas by a microsecond or two if I would launch a bowling ball, but that activity is done about 60 miles from the closest point to the fault so I don't think it would make much difference.  And the usual firing site is on the east side of the fault.

Look at that little guy standing there resolutely on his fort's u-channel rampart, staring steely-eyed at your disappearing mount moritzer, showing absolutely no fear.  Now there is a foe worthy of an intense bombardment!

Can anybody stop this snow?  Where is Al Gore when we really need him??  Looks like you guys are all set for the 20th!
