Tell the CEO
« on: February 20, 2010, 05:54:45 PM »
I have been emailing Ruger daily and have been for the last 2 and a half months. Giving them my idea for a semi new idea. Everyday I send them the following message.

Bring back the .357 Maximum Blackhawk, and offer it with the Hunter style barrel.

They have all of the tooling to do this.

But im just a punk 25 year old with crazy dreams and maybe a little to much dedication. What do you think?

It I remember the story right (I'm old and suffer from CRS) the problem with the Max in a revolver was "Flame Cutting" the top strap in front of the cylinder after a very few rounds and for that reason Ruger dropped the Max from production. Now your only option is to find a used one. Good luck in your efforts with Ruger, maybe they can solve the problems. I for one love the Max cartridge and shoot it regularly in a Contender pistol and thinking that I need a carbine barrel to go along with my pistola.

That's the right way to get their attention - pester them.  ::)   I do believe you're also wasting your breath.  Probably on their spam filter now.   :D
The .357 max is too much of a niche cartridge.  I have been emailing Ruger daily and have been for the last 2 and a half months.  Sales would be too low to substantiate production while interrupting production on more popular models.  Don't see Hunters flying off shelves anyways and this one would be no different.  Hence no .357 Hunter or .32 Hunters.  (the later of which I collected over 100 signatures to show interest and nothing) Even the .17 Hunter is out of production.   Also, the Hunters use a different bbl thread which prevents some models from even being made.  Regardless,  it's a business, they look at numbers in mass not what will attract a few.
Only way such a model would become considered would be if it were a distributor edition.  If a distributor, or shop for that matter, believes such a model would be profitable, they could put in a request for a run to be made.  In most cases a minimum of 250 is required if current parts are used.  In this case, I'd think 1000 minimum would be a must if not more.

Of course, if you really, honestly thought such a model would sell in sufficient numbers, YOU could try and contract the run via a distributor of course.  When you do, let me know, I'd buy at least 2  :)  and already have a SRM.  :)

I have two of the .357 max BHs a 7.5 and a 10.5 and I love them. They only have the problem of flame cutting when you use 125gr or lighter bullets,Also the cutting is self limiting, It will only cut so far then stop. I wouldn't mind owning a Bisley SS hunter model myself thou. 8)

Those maximums have been known to look good with a Bisley Grip frame, triger and hammer.  This one was also changed to a 445 Super mag by John Gallagher  ;D

Mine's in mid Bisley-ization mode right now.  Just gotta fix a cylinder latch/loading gate issue.  Then start searching for another.  :)

the yuppies running ruger take advice from the bean counters not us shooters. Dont hold your breath on a 357 max. I really dont think theres enough demand to bring it back. Youd have a better chance of getting it done in a stretched out 44 so that it would compare favorably to the 454.

I have the DW and a Contender in 357 Max and love them.  The flame cutting and damaged forcing cones were the result of owners pushing 125gr bullets to 2 grand or better.  DW manuals recommended 170gr or heavier bullets.  I've always used 180 and 200gr bullets and have been shooting the DW heavily since 1992 and just recently sent it in for tightening up. as some endshake had crept in, it was still shooting well, I just preferred it tighter and didn't know how long DW/CZ will continue to work on older DW's.  There are many Ruger max's around and still shooting well.

United Sporting Arms had the answer to Flame cutting with their Seville Ruger took them to the courts which helped putting them Out of Business ,I think at that point "R" should have or could have put/Kept the Maxi on the market with a better made Gun that would not get cut
JMHO
I love this maxi
