Did Mac get his in yet? Is this only available in Black? Is the foream the same as the checkered style that has been out for a while now or is it different? I couldn't tell much by the painted picture of the forearm shape. Last question, how is the handi grip stock $35 and the camo monte carlo synthetic stock $65? Any idea of when it may appear in camo? Maybe i need to go back in black

Mine is due in tomorrow..so I don't have it as yet..My forearms have been back ordered and I had to get a varmint forearm to fill in....so you will need to ask one of the folks that has one if they are different

I'm 99.9% sure they're the same forend, they have the same checkering and sling stud location, I don't see why Choate would make a different forend for it. You might check with Choate to see if they'll sell it, they offer a synthetic forend for the Huntsman that isn't listed on their website, so they may very well have the checkered forends too. http://www.riflestock.com/Contact_Us.cfm

My stocks and forearms came in today from Remington..

I am very pleased with how they look and feel and mate up with the receiver. The cap screw is a 7/32" allen wrench and tightens down very good.

The recoil pad that comes on this new stock is indeed the same as what came with my 870 stock set. It has the same feel and texture as the new R3 Super Cell Remington sells for their other synthetic stocks. This is a very good recoil absorbing pad fa better IMHO than any of the decelerator's or Limbsaver's I have owned. I can attest to this fact with as many heavy slug loads and turkey loads I have shot with my 870 using this set up. I took both pads off and both fit exactly the same in each stock.
The stock is hollow as the rest of the synthetics are..so filling it with spray in foam to quite it down on a permanent basis seems to be the order of the day..and one thing I will be doing as soon as I can.The grip area is closed off..so access to fill this area isn't easily done.

The new forearm..is really a new forearm according to JB at the Remington C/S desk. He checked the numbers against the other synthetic forearms to see if any crossed matched which they didn't.Wither it is the checkering that makes it different..I am unsure..but..I can say that it is one solidly built synthetic forearm.It has very thick and rigid cross bracing in it which can be filled quite easily to do the various bedding techniques we do on them. My plan is to fill these spaces with some black epoxy..then RTV bed mine completely. I have had the most success with accuracy having it fully bedded with the material instead of free floating them and relying on 1 contact point at the forearm screw.

Since I could only get 1 of the new forearms,I settled with having one of the varmint forearms sent in it's place. This too is a very nice forearm that appears to lend itself to the way I bed my Handi's..I really like the width of it's bottom and look forward to going out shooting them once my 30-06 gets completed by Oregunsmithing..

Now..some have worried that these stocks may sit too low for good scope use..Ease your mind..they don't..The allow a excellent comfortable cheek weld,while allowing a great sight picture..

I have mine set up with the Varmint forearm and the new Handi-grip stock with my 30-30 barrel,standard Handi scope rail,Warn Maxima medium height rings and a Nikon Pro Staff 3-9x40 scope... No pictures yet..sorry..but will post some as soon I have my camera back..

All in all I am very pleased with my purchase of these stock..and this is coming from someone who is a very traditionalist wood stock loving person.The checkering is crisp and sharp which will allow a firm hold in slippery conditions..The grip has a small enough palm swell on each side since it is ambidextrous not to feel bulky in smaller hands..Those with very large hands may even find the grip area too small for your taste..and may need to add some of the grip material to form to your hands for a better feel.

Thanks for the review Mac. I had a hunch it might be a better fit for people than what the pics looked like. Just may have to get a couple for the 45-70 and 444, they should help with the "stout" recoil my loads seem to produce.

Can't quite figure out why that is.

Yup...the thing shoulders real nice and easy..It just feels good to me..

That's not surprising, just ask Dinny, Jack and a few others who have dealt with them trying to get the right forend and how well they know their forend inventory.

The Handi-grip forend looks identical on the outside to the new checkered synthetic forend that comes on the SB1 357 and 44 mags, take a pic of the inside and post it, I'll do the same and we'll see if that matches too.

Just passing on what I was told Quick..He did say it was a different number after he went thru all of the various part numbers while I was on the phone with him..and like I said..I don't know for sure if it's the same or not..

As soon as I get my camera back..I will snap some pictures of it..and do some measuring on it..Heck..they could have just a minor change to it somewhere..and number it differently..? I don't know..don't have one of the other ones to lay it next to to see..

Nope..no threaded insert..it is drilled and they sypply a regular screw type swivel stud to install in it

You can see the extra material on the left where the swivel stud goes..it's drilled all the way thru

The forearm measures 1.680" wide in the middle of the checkering..as opposed to 1.870" on my red laminated forearm.

This forearm is much narrower on the bottom as opposed to the laminate I have..It's 1.295" and tapers up where the laminate is 1.560" and isn't as taper up to the checkering.It's also a little taller than the laminates,it's 1.325" across at the forearm screw hole compared to 1.255" for the laminates..

So it feels much narrower in your hand than the laminates because of it's taper on top and bottom even though it is 1.40" longer..

Quick..The ribs are .135" thick and overall length is 10.490"

Now the new stock is pretty slick..my only complaint is the rear swivel..

This can be easily corrected by a little filing and red rilling a normal hole on the flat remaining from removing the built in area..

The stock will sit and ride in any of my shooting bags from the bench..Here's the 30-30 and it is just sitting on a small tissue box unsupported at the recoil pad.

These are nice stocks for the money..

It's a wrinkle that is in the recoil pad. It isn't separating..I thought is was when I first looked at it..and pushed it over to the side to see if it was split..it wasn't. it is just a wrinkle. My other one (I bought 2 stocks) hasn't got that on it..

I have been looking in my catalog, and am I right in seeing that the Handi-grip stock is available only with stock and forend together, or can I just get stock?

You can get just the stock..but you will need to pick up the shorter stock bolt as well to attach it.
