Anyone have an ATV sprayer that they are happy with?

I got one this spring from Cabela's.  It was on sale.  I think it was $60. or so.  Holds 15 gallons, electric motor that clips to your battrey.  Has a 15' hose and shoots another 15' or so.  So far so good.  Does what its supposed to do.

I have a 15 gallon one I bought from Tractor Supply about 10 years ago.  Had to replace the pump once and the wand once.  Besides the wand it has 2 nozzles on a small boom.  I set it in the back of my Mule, plug one nozzle with a toothpick, and drive along my fence rows spraying Roundup.  It works good for me.  When I get to a corner, I use the wand.
As someone said, not real good for larger areas.

I went to Tractor Supply and purchased some nozzles and tees to attempt to transform my wand sprayer into a wider, more consistent, stationary one that I already carry in the bed of my golf cart.  Using a wand is OK, wasteful I think, agonizingly slow, and needs a couple of applications (or more) to adequately cover about 4-acres.  If what I am trying to do works, the biggest problem is going to be when there is any breeze and I turn the cart such that my back is into the breeze and the fine mist blows toward the front.  Perhaps working across the breeze then is the right method.  Also getting the correct overlap between three fixed spray heads over the single one of the wand.  Same rate of application with the exception that instead of spraying the load over a 30-feet reach (with wand), it'll be distributed through 3 nozzles across the back and out to 6-feet on either side of the cart.  Or so that is the plan.  Still have not put the pieces together.  No need right now.  Plots are filled with peas and rye!

Roger that Rich.  I was tinkering with it yesterday, until the Daytona 500 got my undivided attention.  I am thinking that potable water will make a good liquid substitute when the "rig" is together for testing.

ALso have the cabelas model, set up on kubota tractor, have not used the wand yet, only the 2 nozzles on the boom. Has worked well. I bought the hardware at Tractor Supply and used some lumber to build a three point hitch to ride on our Kubota tractor.

The spray rigs from Tractor Supply and Northern Tool are all just fine.  What you really want to spend money on is a good pump.  The pumps from Shur-Flo are the best I've used and the internals hold up to just about any type of herbicide you'll ever use.  I generally use the 1.8 gpm model (around $80).  It will support three spray wands for individual plant treatments (IPT) easily and small boomless broadcast nozzles.  For larger broadcast set-ups, I use Flo-Jet pumps (usually 4.5 gpm or greater).

I can't believe it has been since February and I have not worked on that spray rigging of mine.  I still have all of the pieces, I think.  So this project is "On Hold" pending the right motivation.

I will add this. When finished there is no such thing as cleaning out the pump to well, some chemicals are very hard on the seals.
 
Ok two things, Viton seals are top notch and can withstand about anything, EPDM is pretty decent and any pump sold as a "transfer" pump should be trusted only to pump water nothing else. The difference in pump prices are many times due to these seals buyer beware.
 
Thirdly, didn't I say one thing? Flush well with antifreeze in July or August. Drop the coolant outta the truck replace with fresh and use the old to flush the sprayer. Why July ? cause it is right now, as soon as spraying season is over you will forget, admit it.

Adding to what Empty Quiver said about cleaning out your spray rigs, I usually winterize my rigs by running a little diesel through the system.  You have to be careful though.  If you occasionally use your spray rigs for fire suppression, make damn sure you get the diesel out before you use it.  I learned that the hard way.  Now, I use Ag diesel (red tinted)  it makes it much easier to verify that you are good to go for fire suppression.

Mine has a wand and I like it , from tractor supply. I use it for a lot of fences and driveways . My son has one with one broadcast nozzle that covers 30 foot strips , its from the sportsman guide i think. His thought was a boom on the back could get caugh up easy.

Actually, summer took care of all my weed killing needs.  Nothing growing to spray now.
