New Sights on my .45 Carbine
« on: June 19, 2010, 10:29:06 AM »
I bought this carbine and was all excited about it until I got it home.  Then I got to handling it and discovered I could not see the sights very well. (old eyes)  Well, I can see them now!  I put a Marbles 'bullseye' on the rear and a Williams Fire Sight on the front.  I bought a riser for the front but I'm not sure I need it yet, but it looks like I may.  We'll find out at the range this week.  44 Man

Just wondering if we'd see you in Grayling in August?

It looks very cool! Let us know what kind of groups you get with those sights.

I finally installed my Lyman #20 front sight and Williams FP target knob rear sight on my .45 Colt today. I definitely like the set up! I didn't get to shoot a whole lot since my boy was with me and he wanted to shoot it. I can't say no to an 8 year old boy who wants to shoot!

I'd like to get some better front apertures before I start shooting for accuracy anyway.

I'm interested in how the bright front sight works for you.  I tried the fire sight, but it became a big glaring blob out there when I shot.  I'm back to a post front sight now, that seems to work okay.

I never did update this post, sorry.  I did some shooting at the range and found with the Williams fire sight being the same hight as the original, I had to take the riser out of the Bullseye rear to get in sighted in.  But it works fine there.  At 50 yards, she will shoot at about 2 1/2", and is 2" high.  That 'should' put it right on at 100 yards but I have not shot it at 100 yet as I'd rather use a scoped rifle when the range stretches, that's just my eye problem, not the gun or caliber.  I'll get a chance to play with it at extended ranges in a couple weeks at the shoot.  But it does shoot very well at 50 yards, the sights are quick and easy to use!  44 Man

Lewis, I'm eager to see that setup at the shoot.  Perhaps I can do the same on mine.  See ya soon.

I just ordered one today!   ;D   Ima gonna try it on my Huntsman since that rifle is not D&T'd for a receiver sight or scope mount.  That kinda makes the Bullseye my only option.   :-\
