Da tirty-tirty Handi's got a new job
« on: September 13, 2010, 04:14:01 PM »
The hounds down at the barn have been sounding off nights lately.  I get up, but can't see didly squat.  I was pokin around the internet lookin for other stuff and stumbled onto something that is going to start a project.

I've got a .30-30 Handi with iron sights.  It's drilled and tapped.  I found a red dot halographic sight with an integral side by side laser sight.  I also found a 400 meter plus barrel mounted light.  I doubt if my night shots are going to be over 100 yards, so the .30-30 should do fine.

I can just see that honey sitting by the back door waiting to go to work.  Comeon hounds, lets hear ya!!

I have one of the Laser Genetics/BSA ND-3 laser designators mounted on my 30-30 Handi. I thoroughly enjoy using it. The animal's eyes light up real nice like and they're isn't much wasted over-lighting. That laser just illuminates the area in relation to the diopter size and distance (larger the diopter=larger lighted area....longer the distance=larger the lighted area)  I did my good deed of the year by helping out an older lady down the street with some pesky coons that kept raiding her sweet corn patch. Those coons never even had a clue I was there shining them. That green laser works great!!!

Pete,  Send me a PM when you have time, I wanna share a secret with you. ;)

Thanks, Dinny

I had a really cheap laser (pulled it off a used air rifle) mounted on a 45-70 for backyard fun. How do you sight in a laser?

The ones I'm looking at have windage and elevation adjustments just like a scope.

Umm Dinny, if you would, let me in on it too. I have been thinking real serious about one myself. Seems we have a serious problem with beaver here, and it is the ideal thing to take  care of them. They get light shy after a night, um so I have been told. Not that I would know anything about that, but figured good info is hard to beat. PM me or Email me if you would. I would love to know more about these things.

That would work. i'm cheap so my laser clamps to the scope and is Ok on elevation, but not windage. My idea is to buy retro style windage adjustable mounts, get the laser dialed in with the mounts to hit cats and dogs at 50 yards and then use the scope's internal adjustments to sight it in for longer ranges. Probably won't work, which is why i don't want to invest more than $8 into trying it. I had the airgun in the truck and never thought to use the laser, then one 2am I showed at the boat ramp to go fishing. Friend did not show for 2 hours, but i killed a lot of nasty tin cans that night while waiting.

Catman,
No big secret really....I just wanted to tell Pete about some of my misadventures using the ND-3 without it being in an open forum.  I'll let everyone else's imagination run rampant.  ;) ;D

Thanks, Dinny
