I finally started it.

Some of you might remember the chunk of walnut that I bought last year to restock my 375 JDJ Handi.
well I finally got around to starting the project.

First photo is the chunk of walnut that I started with.



The next photos show a couple of different stages of whittling away at it.






You can see the forend that I have roughed out.

I will post more photos when I get it finished.

The shaping isn't to difficult just follow some basic stock measurments & preset angles.  such as standard drop at comb from the center of the bore is 5/8" & at the toe 1 1/8 (for scope use). Center of trigger to tip of grip 3 1/2 to 4". The bottom angle of the grip is a line that intersects the top of the heel.  The line from the toe is a line that runs forward to just under the receiver at the trigger.   Standard LOP is 13 1/2.  The main thing to remember is that you can always take more wood off but you can't put it back.

RDLang she likes 220 gr hornadys. Puts 5 shots inside an inch at 100yds.  Thats minute of deer & good nuf for me.

What method did you use to drill the bolt hole?  I have two blanks sitting here that I need to start on.

Drilling that deep hole & drilling it centered AND STRAIGHT was the hard part.  I drilled it with a long auger bit that I bought from harber freight.  I drilled the hole in my lathe useing a milling attachment to hold the stock.  Center punched a mark on each end where I wanted the hole to be & centered the aft hole on the tailstock center & the front hole on the drill bit point. The drill was mounted in the lathe chuck.

Neighbor said I couldn't cut down his tree.  :(  I wonder if he'll notice the big hole in the ground from where I dug it up ??? Are you taking orders yet? I'll mail the whole tree just to get one stock from it, you can keep the rest. ;) :D ;D
