John,

Scott doesn't work on Sat. but since your gonna be there in person that shouldn't be a problem. If you take exit 61 off I10 Go back east on hwy 90 You'll go through one redlight, the shop will be about a 1/4 mile on the right.

Everyone else,

They also have 444's, whelens, 357's, 45/70's and a couple of 243's

I bought it last Friday. The other one has a scope and Scott said it was a package, would not take it off. I will make it a rimmed .35 Rem.

Come to think of it, he never did give me a straight answer when I asked if he'd seperate it. I know it's not a handi combo as it has a Nikon on it. He said he's got 7 more coming.

Quick,

The one question I forgot to ask. Next time I'm in (it's close enough to the house I can walk) I'll ask that very question.

The 35 remy might have the same headspace issues as the 35 whelen due to the small shoulder.
Try to look unimportant.   Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Only Handi so far is a 375 JDJ.

Guys,

Just used my Bill Hicks login and there are no 35 Rem Handi's listed there. So it must be this Hicks Inc. out of Alabama. I am not familiar with them.

I talked to H&R this A.M. about the lack of quality control they have. The .35 Rem. that I ordered has nothing going for it. 22 rounds of factory didn't fire. Checked to see if the barrel would fit another frame. All fired, three and a half inch group at 50yds. Lapped the barrel, then three inches at 50yds. 8x32X scope set on 32X. Frame that the barrel came on has a 6.5 lb. pull, very rough finish and extremely hard to open. Could not find out if this is one out of a shipment to Bill Hicks in Alabama. If they let one like mine go out for sale there has to more the same.

Is it one of the models(sku numbers) the service notice covers? There's at least one 35 Rem model listed in the 35 Whelen notice. The sku number will only be on the box it came in, your dealer should be aware of it, they got the notice.

Know some folks who order from him from time to time, but never dealt with him personally.

I would like to have a 35 Rem in a Handi though. Iron sights, straight camo lams and 200 grainers for them hawgs in the swamp! The old Rem 141 does the job though, but it ain't getting no younger!

Re: Handi in 35 Remington ( sku # )
« Reply #53 on: October 11, 2010, 05:41:28 PM »
quickdtoo,
The sku# is (72608) for the .35 Rem. that I ordered. I didn't see this number on the Dealer Service Notice. Is this number listed on any other service notice you have seen? I called the Remington ammo plant in Arkansas to see if the ammo I used had any know problems and the first thing they asked was if I was using a H&R. They said there were several other calls about the same problem and to just send the gun back. The lot # for the .35 Rem. 200 gr. I used is ( K29   JDI ). They also suggested returning any ammo suspected of having a problem. Just call for a return label.
This rifle has other quality control issues too. I lapped the barrel with a 5 microns non-embedding compound to smooth it a little. I tried just to smooth the high spots and not take off any measurable amount of metal on the rest of the bore. The bore measured (.3605) before I lapped it. I set my die to give a tight feel on the brass when the gun was closed and reloaded all the empty cases. Still didn't fire. I switched the barrel to another frame and all fired. Still 3" groups. Loaded cast bullets next. Then the barrel gave one half inch groups at 50 yds. for each three shots. This one will be on my table at the Tulsa show!

That's the only service notice I've seen, I'd get H&R to fix it instead of selling it off to some one else.

As much as I understand the feeling of 'just get rid of it' (and Ive had my share of less than satifactory firearms) we, in the enthusiast community, owe our friends, known and unknown, the real story on anything we 'put on the table'. If, with full disclosure, someone chooses to then buy it, fine. Hey, maybe someone wants to shoot only lead bulets out of it and is willing to take the chance, I know I have in the past.

Good ethics truly should be with everyone. The .35 Rem. barrel will be on my table at the show. I think full disclosure has all ready been made to every person that reads the H&R section here as to it's bore size. It will be on another frame that it fits better than you can get from the factory. Nice smooth two and a half lb. trigger pull and B.C. wood. The label will read (.3605" bore- recommend cast bullets only). It should go fast because of the high number of cast bullet shooters out there. It will not matter to a few what the tag reads. There is a group of people that think they can "make" anything shoot. After they find out that maybe they can't they will be the one to sell with out any true info on the barrel. The rest will say 50 yds. is a long shoot where I hunt and a three inch group is good enough. Why don't I send it back to the factory? I will recover my cost. I don't want anymore news ones, my old guns are just fine. The new frame I will save for when I have time to correct the problems and do a decent trigger job on it. I got on line to let people know that some real quality control problems exists with the .35 Rems. Then it seems ethics became the subject. I am sure if I look in the shipping box I will not find a disclosure from H&R about all the many problems they passed on to their dealers and then to me and all the rest. Ethics, maybe someone needs to tell H&R.

Remington factory ammo and H&R seem to have issues. Not a Whelen or a rifle, but my 12 gauge USH misfires every so often with Remington ammo. There are fixes, mine is I take the shells to the side, shoot them in a Mossberg, bang every time.
