Trapper barrels are 18¾" long and have sights and are drilled and tapped for a scope base, standard Handi barrels are 22" long and only come with a scope base, the 357 and 44mag barrels can be fitted to SB1 or SB2 frames.

I could get tempted to send in a SB2 frame, get a .44 Trapper and ream it to .445 and end the overbore problem.....but.....then....on the otherhand, since I reload, the overbore isn't much of a problem.  Whataya think Tim?

Kurt, I'm not positive about it today, but in the past they've been drilled and tapped.

Tim, You're bad.  Now I'm thinking of sending in 3 frames and getting the .44 Trapper, the .444 and the .500.  Patty's gonna kill me.  Can anyone tell me what I need them for?  It's just WANT, WANT.....the addiction again.  Everyone knows my .45-70 will do everything the other three will.

To my knowledge, only rifled shotgun barrel scope rails are soldered/welded, all rifle scope rails are mounted with screws.

That's an obsolete acc barrel pamphlet, the 45-70 BC barrel is $120, the 45LC barrel is discontinued, the last time the 38-55 was made was in 2007, discontinued for 2008, see the website. Your CR-45 is a couple years old, look at the serial number prefix and compare it to the mfr year list in the FAQs, I think 2008 was the last year it was made.

I've got to get ahold of a new handi in 35 whelen. I've wanted a whelen for a good while but haven't been able to find one when I've had any spare cash. I'd been wanting to "hop-up" the 30-06 lately, but, the whelen should fit the bill for something with a little more bang. I have the 30-06 down to the point where it just needs some experimentation in the reloading department, and started this evening on my 270's forend and trigger improvements. Might as well add the whelen into the mix. The 270 and 30-06 overlap each other a good bit, but the whelen should be a step above the two of them out to 300 yds or so, which is pretty much all i'm good for anyway!

I may be incorrect but (Buds) they may be a SB1 rec, look at the model number, SB1-44T.

Not may be, the ONLY frame the 44mag comes on is an SB1, been that way since 2008.
