Question re: 45-70
« on: January 21, 2011, 02:21:48 PM »
With the new regs allowing 1.80 case lenght, what becomes of psi if I load a 405 lead slug over the normal amount of 5744 in the shorter case?  Should I maintain the normal OAL?

The new length is not law yet, just a proposal.

I got a feeling if they don't pass it there are going to be a lot of people not following the rules because of all the hoopla over changing the rules. There are a lot of people that think that they have changed the case length. The have not and may not everyone should really make sure before gun season opens up!

I think  ::) alot of folks just like something new. Even if they do not pass the new length, you can still play with it. Look at how many Indianas have rifles that can not be used for deer.  ;) Myself I think I am going to go with a short chambered .35 Rem.

WLS-at the risk of highjacking this thread, I would like to know what method you use to trim your 45-70 cases down to 1.80.

Hank oh Hank, didn't you trim some 45-70 brass down?

 Check post 61  http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,220391.60.html

If he don't show up here, send him a note.

I've trimmed with fine hacksaw blades, files, and elect drill attached to the case trimmer. They all work. Anneal after and your brass will last longer.

i trimed my cases to 1.63 with copper tubing cutter (4.00at ace hardware) then trimmed to 1.625 on my trimmer. I  load full length 45-70 with 30.5 imr 4198 405 bullet. 45-70 short are loaded with 30.5 gr. imr 4198 and 300 gr bullet this is a lite compressed load very accurate
