Mortars sound cool.

I have a BUNCH of things for awards/recognition of folks that come and participate that Richard (the generous) has donated.

I'm on the road now (Illinois tonight, Iowa tomorrow and then to the end of the world celebration with the prairie dogs in South Dakota for 3 days.)

I'll also dig out the targets for the S.A. under 80 cal cannon competition.

I cant wait  keep us posted, because i will forget about the shoot unless i look at it.   I wont be able to bring the brooke as it is gone. to a better home. but i am starting a  scale heavy rifled boat howy on landing carriage.   I just have to figure out where i am orderign the wheels from. i am going with the early wood wheels.  sorry dom, or i would order yours.   friends choice not mine.  it is for the glouchester civil war celibration ,  it was the first gun to shoot in the civil war in Va.  and it was at a ship called the yankee of all things. lol

It would be nice if we could donate something to the property owners too, they're swell.

This is a excellent idea!!

I gotta wonder if this event will go on...right now I bet Tim is buried up to his axles in mud and probably won't get unstuck until July.

Well you guys can always start without him!

Almost - but that was yesterday in South Dakota.  I'm in Illinois now and headed back to VA in the AM.
Great PD shoot - not many pix that can be published because of the visual shock content.

I sure hope we can make it to another New River Valley shoot, Tim.  We sure had fun at the first two.  Can't do it this year, but maybe next.  Say is the acronym correct above?  Is it really,  AARNVM&CS ?     RNV ?   (River New Valley) ??  Oh well, it's lots of fun whatever you call it.  It's the closest you will ever come to shooting cannons on a golf course!  One of the best looking ranges in this great country of ours.    :) :)

With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

M&T  -   that's good!  On the 100th post to catch the typo in the title!  4th Almost Annual New River Valley Mortar and Cannon Shoot.

I'll be (likely) seeing Dale in the AM.  (I'm just now back from driving 3151 miles on the prairie dog shoot in South Dakota.)

We'll establish (might take a day or two) the TIMES.  I'm leaning to:
arrive at 9ish
first round at 10am
Fire until noon,

Lunch for an hour.  (Some or all awards to be given then and/or about 3ish.)

Fire from 1pm to 3pm or so.

All times pending Dale and Dennis' approval.

Again, thanks to all who've donated and participated in the past.

We will publish the order of fire soon too.  I'm leaning to go from small bore to large bore.  I'll look for the B17 targets and build frames this weekend.

M&T  - you are always welcome - every time we've met it's been a continuous in-depth discussion will all around.

We've heard from Little Seacoast who will be arriving Friday night.  Pete is bringing his 1/2 scale parrot which will be a really cool treat and a couple other pieces. We should have plenty of mortars!  I've re-mounted my rear sight on the Mtn rifle (with locktight this time) and Rick is testing different powder so it might take a few rounds to get going. Both of us are going light on the charges.

I echo Ricks thought. This will be a great time!!  :D

The grass is being mowed TODAY, we'll have a good open field of fire (pun intended).

I'm still looking at these times:
arrive at 9ish
first round at 10am
Fire until noon,

Lunch for an hour.  (Some or all awards to be given then and/or about 3ish.)

Fire from 1pm to 3pm or so.

Rampa Room Artillery,

If I remember correctly, we should be able to get 200 yds by shooting past "Will" (the big apple tree). The range has a slight downward slope. All big and expensive mortar shells tend to roll into the creek, never to be found again. Just kidding...  :D

Good recollections.
I have several CHEAP 4.5" outside diamter 4" PVC concrete filled projos BURRIED in the mud/dirt near the crick.

100 and almost 200 (ok 200 if you shoot through the clearing) yards, yes, downward elevation.

I have about 300 golf balls i am bringing for anyone to have and use,    i am in corrola with family and cant get the lathe and what i need to pack in the trailer  so i am heading back tonight, and wont stop working till  i am ready.   I plan to bring 30 pellots for my mountain rifle and i hope to have the little gun done intime but it is not looking good. unless i can get my buddy over to the house to cast projectiles and make powder charges.   and also does the property owners shoot? if so i will bring them some soft lead.

Made 18 bullets for the 4.2 this afternoon after work.
Took almost all of two 60 lb bags of sackcrete with extra cement added for strength.

Next are the soup cans and 16-20-24 oz soda bottles.
