A working heavy folder - Sniper Bladeworks
« on: March 11, 2011, 01:07:09 AM »
This is the "DH" model.  1095 blade with homon.  Ti handles and carbon fiber from the same lot that's going on my Colt Combat Commander.  Blade is a bit over 3.5" (cutting edge) and the whola affair, when open is almost 9" long.  It is one of the most ergonomic folders I've ever had in my hand.  Photos are by me and I'm not that good with the digital ones...

I don't know guys, I think it would be hard to use for anything beside skinning. I like a thin, flex blade. Much less tireing to use.

Doe,

It is a big knife and I like knives - I guess that's the reason for it.  It is not a production knife, so the fit & finish is very good.  The steel is plain 1095 carbon steel, but it's the treatments that it goes through that make it a fine blade.

I carry a Chris Reeve small regular sebenza in my pocket daily.  The handle design changed a bit a few years ago, but the knife is one of the best production folders available.  There are several other brands of production folders that will meet your needs and they come in all price ranges.  The Reeve knives are pricey, but to me, worth it.

Some others I've taken a liking to lately for general use / daily carry are:

Spyderco Manix 2 sprint runs with flat ground blades - the regular production Manix 2 isn't bad either with 154 CM stainless steel.

Benchmade 470 Emissary - I don't have one yet, but one is on order.  New model with great S30V stainless steel blade.

Certainly, if you purchase knives, find a good store like knifecenter or yourcornerstore online and shop for the best prices.  If you buy used or discounted new, and you get a desirable knife, you will be able to recover nearly all your dollars or trade for something you like more.  Like anything, there are lots of opinions online that do not reflect your own preferences, so get a knife or 2 and carry it / them for a while.  You will find what you like sooner that way.

best regards - redleg
