7X57AI
« on: May 07, 2011, 03:08:45 PM »
Just found out from are friends at 4D Reamer that I can ream a 7mm08 to the 7X57AI. 8) Seeing that I may never find a 7X57 for my price  ::) I am going to go ahead rent the reamer today. I also talked to the folks at Lee dies and while they do not product the &X57AI dies. They told me to use their 7X57 collet die. If I have any trouble with this they said to send them the die and a case and they would make it work for me NO charge.  8) 8) ;D

8), I really like the collet neck size dies, wish I had them for everything bottleneck. If you dont go for max velo and pressure you might not have to resize the body of the case to get good ejection/extraction, just downsize the neck enough to hold the next bullet well. If cases are a little 'sticky' just back the charge off a bit and retry until they arent.

Was wondering if you considered the 284 Winchester?

I have used Lee collet dies for the .308,30-06 and 22-250 so far so good. ;)

I may try the .284 next, the 7X57 is just one of favorite rounds I have it in single shot, bolt action and even a M-1 Garand. They all shoot great.   Tom  8) ;D

Ive been using Lee products for 30+ years, and although some people dont care for them, they have served me well
and my few problems were quickly and at no cost resolved. It is a plus for me that they are a Wisconsin company so I can support a 'home town' firm.
They certainly will do some 'custom' work for a very reasonable price, glad to hear they will work with you.

Will the rebated rim on the 284win cause ejection problems?

It didn't on my 300WSM experimental barrel, it worked fine as an ejector, an extractor barrel should be even better. One member here has a 6mm-284, seems to work fine.

Not well at all, I couldn't achieve even 30-06 max velocities due to the breech thrust, same reason no one makes short mag Encore barrels any more, it became the donor stub for my 6.5x55.
