H&R/NEF Calendar
« on: October 03, 2011, 09:52:05 AM »
I see that it is time for the Cannon Calendar again.
While this is cool I think it would be nice to have our own H&R/NEF Calendar showing some really nice rifles & pistols mfg by H&R/NEF along with guns that members have put together that were not factory available.
I will even summit the first photo.
This would be something of our own showcaseing OUR guns that we are proud of while maybe gennerating some extra funds for the GBO site.
Let's hear your thoughts on this.

They don't have to be high dollor.
This one was bought right here on GBO in pieces and put together by me.
I have a total of $430.00 in it not counting the scope.
Some nice shorties or ones with refinished wood looks pretty nice and still be cheap guns price wise.

The best looking NEF product ever.  I wish I could say I owned this.  BTW, this is not a custom gun, it's all factory:

When you allow a lie to go unchallenged, it becomes the truth.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

I like it!  Especially "with guns that members have put together that were not factory available".

Maybe we could have submissions and vote on them.  similar to "Bow of the Month" on the Primitive Archery site.

I'll have to get started building something worthy of consideration.

I have one that is worth that to me, but no one would offer 199.99 for it.... :)  It ain't as purdy as Toms but it would show up all twelve months on my calendar cause it's my Favorite.
Good idea Tom, Is the title going to be "Grey Beard Outdoors H&R section- the best singles club in the world". ::)
Are you just looking for a gun picture or a gun w/game picture? Hope it all comes together.

I think a Handi rifle calendar is a great idea!  I would like to see purty ones, sure, but custom and ones with lot's of signs of honest use (not abuse) would be cool too.

I can contribute this one:

The photo is hardly one I'd put in a calendar but the rifle is pretty.  I can re-take a photo with a better background.

Longtom:
I was bragging on your rifle, it is almost too pretty to shoot. If you put it together for less than $500 then you did very well.
I'm going to put one up there that is on the other end of the spectrum.
The serial number list says this rifle was made in 1972. I bought it in 1978 as I recall, and paid less than $50 for it.
The sight is off of a mauser.  I paid $2 for the sight and reworked it to fit myself.
The rifle is an old friend, and still a stress release to shoot.
Oh, and it makes holes where I want them.

I am sure there would be no shortage of entries to vote on.
Of course this would have to be run by GB for his consideration.
We would also have to find someone to head up the whole process, get prices from different sources and then figure out what % would go to GBO.
I don't know anyone that is set up to do this.
Maybe others do and would be willing to check into it and get back to us with some ideas.
While GB would surely welcome the extra dollars for the site I am sure that he would want no part in the actual working end of this as he most likely has enough to do already with the site.
This may just be a far out dream idea and never come to be.
I just thought it would be nice to have a chance to have something of our very own to show off through out the year.
Does anyone know just how we need to do this?

As far as animals in the photos goes, I am sure it would be nice to see what gets taken with a simple Handi rifle but I am afraid the pics might lean more towards the animals than the guns.
Not that there's anything wrong with a good pick of an animal with the gun that harvested it.
I just think the calendar should be done solely on the guns themselves with a short description of it and maybe the members screen name.

You are right about the animal in the pic, I was also concerned about how "bloody" the pic would be. But I like the idea of a calendar.
Not to be pushy but who does the cannon calendar? Maybe laying out 2 isn't that hard after one is done, just change pics and descriptions? I don't know anything about it and it is probably way more complex than that but maybe they could either help out at least point us in the right direction. (OK I mean ya'll in the right direction.)

I think a calendar showcasing all the different ways people make their Handis their own would be really neat!

I could take better pics of my 16" collapsable .308!

*edit*

Even better would be pics of handis in environments to which their owners tailored them. Like, a full-length stainless Buffalo Classic lying in a grass with a herd of buffalo in the background :D (potentially photoshopped, heh). Or a short-barreled .357 propped up against the bushes. Or a fluted .243 looking out over a wide prairie.
To top it off, each picture needs a paragraph description by the owner (and potentially edited by the calendar creator for drama or whatever). It would detail something like it's intended purpose (why it was purchased or set up the way it was) or, even better, a good success story.

Include some of the plan rifles with targets showing tight groups. Just to make the high dollar boys jaw drop.

Voting ended yesterday on this issue with very limited input. Out of the 605 times it was read there were only 46 votes total and only 14 members posted a reply. Doesn't look like there is near enough interest in this project to pursue it farther.
Below are the official results.
It is clear which one was the winner as to what we would want in a calendar.
Limited to H&R/NEF mfg guns only along with member asm/rechambered H&R/NEFs 34 (73.9%)

Long guns only? 6 (13%)

Long guns & pistols? 6 (13%)

I think I should have included the "LONG GUNS ONLY" in the heading of
"Limited to H&R/NEF mfg guns only along with member asm/rechambered H&R/NEFs".
If you include these two together it is 40 (86.9%).

Sorry guys, I would have thought that everyone would have joined in on this.
Like I said, "This may just be a far out dream idea and never come to be".
And so it seems!!!

Thanks to all for taking the time to read, vote and reply.

Not so fast . Have you checked what it takes to get calenders done and where to do it? Minimum orders and what cost may be? Gotten ahold of Remington to explore possible corporate monies. I am interested in this project and think it could be pulled off and don't think it should die with a simple poll. I was kind of waiting to see what you came up with and think others here are doing the same thing as well. If you would like to see this thru let us know...I am pretty sure we could put togeather a small committee with clear objectives and get a few guys working on specific needs. Kurt

Hey Kurt:
You may be right.
I guess the low vote count kind of took me by supprise.

Bikebeans sent me a PM today asking the same thing so I just got off the phone a couple of hours ago with a lady that works at a printing company that does calendars along with any kind of printing.
This is basically what she stated.

The lady told me that they will do any quantity from 1 to whatever.
They are done on heavy card stock with a spiral ring binding so it can be folded all the way over.
They have 13 photos, including the cover, all in color.
The days part is standard black on white.
She said the cost runs about $12 to $13 each but the price would drop with quantity and she wasn't sure by how much.
I am sure that the more you order the cheaper it is.

That is all I know at this time.
I would think that with a order of say 100 we could be looking at a cost of about maybe $10.00 each.
Of course there would need to be something in it for GBO and the shipping.
I am guessing but maybe a couple of dollars each, just a wild guess.
That would put them in the $15.00 or less range.
Not really that bad for a custom job of our very own.
Maybe some others could check around also and get something for us to compare with. I too, would like to see this happen. I think it would be neat for us and generate a little extra money for GBO. All other comments welcome.
