K-Hornet dies?
« on: November 02, 2011, 02:40:26 PM »
Does anyone know if the LEE .22 Hornet collet neck size only dies have enough shoulder clearance for the K-Hornet?

I have an issue spending 2-3X for a set of specialty neck size only dies, when they are likely the same exact die as the non improved neck size only version.

Thanks

No their not.  But.......you can send you collet die to Lee and they will modify it to K hornet. They charged me $10.00 including return shipping
Life is like a coin you can spend it any way you wish. But you can only spend it once.

For Anyones future reference, the standard .22 Hornet LEE collet neck size only dies just showed up and have plenty of sholder clearance to size K-Hornets almost all the way to the shoulder, without impact. Perfectly sufficient for anything short of full length sizing at half to 1/3 the price of K-Hornet dies.

I found my 22K Hornet dies on Ebay. They were 20 or so dollars with shipping.I went with the K version not for velocity increase but for a longer case life.So far I have been very pleased with the mod.

Jeep, I did it for the same reason. Thats also why I am intent on neck sizing only.

Jason, The same way you would set any die. I just stopped adjusting the die down, short of reaching the shoulder.

I have a Redding die set for my 22K Hornet. I also have a 22 Hornet collet die, but have been using a Redding Type "S" neck sizing die I have for the 221 Fireball. It makes some very good handloads

Here is a typical group with a cheap MidSouth Varmint Nightmare 34 grain Hollow point bullet.

I originally wanted to get a Lee Collet die (I really do like them) for my 221 Fireball. I sent in two fired cases and two bullets (50 grain V-Max) with a check for $54 (I think). they sent it all back to me with a note saying the 221 Fireball was too short to make a collet die for. the 22 Hornet is the exact same length, and it is the an off the shelf item...go figure. Any way that is how I ended up with the Redding neck sizing die. Since the 221 Fireball and the 22K Hornet are the same length, I though I would give it a try and it worked to perfection.
