22 Hornet bullet question
« on: March 31, 2012, 09:39:53 AM »
Local sale of .223 'hornet' bullets available.

Sierra #1100 22cal 40gr.223 Hornet
Speer #1011 45gr .223 Spitzer
Hornady #2220 22 45gr .223 Hornet

Have Handi barrel... thought it was a .224 barrel... How would these work in my barrel?

Should do this today.  Might go away.?

These bullets are for old .22 Hornet rifles with the tighter .223" bore.  I wouldn't bother with these for a newer rifle like a Handi with a .224" bore.

I've never been able to see any difference between the .223 and the .224 bullets in any of my Hornets , ( 3 ) , if the price is right , grab them .

However, Winchester 46g have some kind of magic involved, especially in their white box ammo. I never did get a chance to reload with them and L'il Gun, maybe someone else has? Good luck. ;D

Jacketed bullets are often only nominally the size of the bores they are shot in, the jacket grabs rifling so much better than lead and accuracy ruining gas cutting doesnt occur. This is why you dont see anybody saying 'slug your bore' to see what size jacketed bullets to use. My 3 Hornets shot .223 or .224 dia jacketed equally well, but, as always, YMMV.
