Sidekick youth deer
« on: October 26, 2012, 01:27:44 AM »
My 10 y.o. passed hunter saftey this summer and I said he would hunt youth weekend (mid Nov).
Well my brother flew in for early ML, I let my boy skip school opening morning (Thur), 2 shots at ~40-50 yds.
He's shooting a sidekick cut down to 20", boyds TH stock with 1.5" cut off and rubber check pad, Bushnell 2-7 x 32 slug scope.
Had him at the range using a 175g dead center sitting on 65g of BH209, upped it to 85g with a 250g ultimate (PR Bullet) for hunting.

Wow! Now that's a Kodak Moment!

Congrats to you and your son.  Best way to spend some quality time with the kids.

Slack,
Thanks for the info!!  I have a barrel coming I traded for and plan on coping your handy work, if you don't mind. My oldest is 10 and she begging to deer hunt. I was trying to figure out what to have her use and your set up will be perfect. I hope she has as much success as you kids have. Looks like you have great hunting team going. You need to change your name to prouddaddy!
Thanks
Jeff

I use a ML for the kids, because a 20 ga slug gun would turn them off quick.
I use a 175 gr "Dead Center" bullet from Precision Rifle. I load it on 60 gr powder for practice, hardly any kick.
Then for hunting I use a 250gr Ultimate (Precision Rifle) on 80 gr powder, hits the same out to 100 yards, and they never notice the differance.
