Taurus 460 (with fear and trembling)
« on: May 05, 2004, 07:19:17 PM »
I was seriously looking at a 45 Colt Taurus 460 6.5" in SS, as advertised by CDNN.  I'd read many great things about Taurus until I did a search here.

The posts are everywhere and it's hard to make sense of the info since it's scattered, but I seem to have gathered that Taurus customer service is lousy, or that that's an understatement.

Maybe they think that lifetime warranty means they can take your lifetime to get it back to you.

My priorities in any gun are, in this order:  Safety, reliability, longevity, accuracy, ease of operation, and appearance last.

My hopes for such a revolver would be primarily for black powder target shooting, and secondly as a backup for whitetail deer hunting.

I was also hoping for a more substantial aftermarket grip, as the compact model one seems a little anemic.  I have large hands :D

Are these just pieces of crap and that's why CDNN has them on closeout?  I've had nothing but good experience with CDNN's products before.

From what I have heard and personally seen of recent offerings from Taurus the quality is hit or miss (mostly miss) and customer service is a joke. The QC problems seem not to affect the RB series for some reason, I have not personally seen a bad RB in any flavor, and I see alot of them.
I would suggest to anyone looking into a taurus not to purchase it unless they can handle it and inspect it very closely first..... :D

My 450 was my first experience with a Taurus. While I've finally gotten it to the point where it will serve its intended purpose I likely would NOT buy another one unless I could run a couple of boxes of shells through it first.  I really had my heart set on a 415 but could not find one that wouldn't have cost me extra money to get my hands on and likely will never had one.  The finish on my gun is not great. Items like the trigger and hammer do not have smooth flowing lines condusive to smooth operation. They look like they were cut out with a hacksaw, finished with a couple strokes of a file an/or sandpaper. The thumbar on the hammer actually has a slight cant to it. Not a problem but visibly distracting.
Just another worthless opinion!!

Of the last two Taurii I've bought one was fine, the other pretty dismal.  The good one was a 3" 44 Special, everything works, the finish is very good and the accuracy is excellent.  The downside was a Model 65 357 4", it looked great in the store but shoots 18 inches low and left at 25 yards, and the sights are fixed.  I'm currently trying to sell it to someone who will use it as a house gun, short range only.  After all the horror stories I've heard about Taurus' customer service, plus talking to them several times, I decided to unload the gun rather than sending it back to them to fix.  What good is a Lifetime Warranty if it's too large a hassle to bother with?   :?
