30-30 ai update
« on: October 31, 2004, 03:38:17 PM »
I know some folks were wanting to know how my quest for accuracy turned out.  It seems that 32g of Re7 and 125 Nosler BT's work the best in my barrel (remember that all barrels are different and you must approach loads carefully).  Right now I'm shooting a little less than 1 MOA with a OAL of 2.810".

The 150g BT's like 3031 in my gun and don't seem to like Re7.

What's interesting is that I seem to get three types of groups:
1. tight circular clusters
2. vertical strings a little more loose
3. what I'll call 'shotgun' groups

Seems to do a wonder on 2 liters of MoutainDew :P

Now I just have to wait for MountainDew season to begin :?

Mudriver, I just purchased 30-30AI barrel a litttle while ago, best load so far is  with 33.5grs. of 10X with 125 Nos. BT. A five shot string averaged just under 2300 fps. on the chrony with group size under a inch. Tried AA2015, IMR 4198, IMR 4064. Deer season starts next Friday so I'm done messing with loads for awhile. Oscar-eleven

I haven't tried 10x yet.  Just 3031, 4198 and Re7.  I've got a Chrony on order so after I try it out I'll post the velocity figures.
