got a lyman gpr flintlock . what is a good flint fore this gun???  i' got 2 agate clear flints .they dont last very long any ideas???   i' like the gun but that 32 inch barrel is to long. should i' get a new barrel or get a new gun???  RMC has a new barrel 28 inch long fore a 169.99..  1; 48 twist   should knock a pound or two of the weight .... what do you thank michael :D  :cry:

Black english flints are pretty much the traditional standard flint against which all others are judged...measure the width of the frizzen and this will be the "size" that you need to buy/order...ie: I use 3/4" BEF's in my TC Hawkens and average 40-60 shots per flint.

Best prices I've found is to order bulk bags of 50 or 100 from October Country

In the GPR I have I use Tom Fuller  3/4" black english frints from  www.OctoberCountry.com  You will find them good people to deal with.

As far as the barrel goes, this is the first time I have heard anyone complain of the barrel being too long....  That is one of the unique features that make is "sorta" resemble a real Hawken..... You could have the barrel shortened or buy a replacement barrel for it. Sounds like possibly the GPH would have been a better rifle for you with the shorter barrel ?  

However, I am not one for upgrading mass produced low priced ML'ers like buying dif. barrels, locks, triggers, stocks, etc... I shoot them as they come & learn to make work what they came with.. ..  IMHO, I feel it is usually not necessary for these upgrades & usually one is putting  $ 200-500 more in a rifle that is still a $300. rifle...  However, others have different opinions of these upgrades & one must choose their own path....  

If it were me & I didn't like it as it is, I would sell it & buy another rifle but go someplace & shoulder one Before purchasing it, so you don't have a repeat situation.

going to keep the barrel onit and find a flint lock with a short barrel.  the only problem with going and looking and shoulder is that most places dont carry flint locks... most look at you llike you are stupid.. :cry: i'will get some english flints   :D  thanks michael
