first range report on the 204 ruger
« on: March 19, 2005, 07:44:49 AM »
well i got to do some shooting today with my 204 ruger. well here's the particulars :

gun information :

NEF handi rifle, 22inch bull barrel, fully floated and trigger job down to 1lb. scope is a tasco/bushnell 6-24X42 with mildot reticle and weaver rings and ultra scope rail.

load data is :

hornady case
40gr V-max
30gr of BL-c2
with WSR primer
OAL 2.395" (just off the lands)

range report:

well i really don't think my gun likes the 40gr bullets. i started my loads at 28.0gr and moved up in .4 entervalles (sp) well it turns out that from 28.0 through 29.0 all bullets keyholed but when i got up to 29.5 and 30 (max)the keyholing stopped. so i shot three five shot groups of the 30gr load at 100 yards. the best five shot group i had was .43 ctc the worst was .89 so it didn't do too bad. the recoil was great i could see all shots through the scope so long as the scope was set under 14 power ,16 if you where lucky. still it was really fun to shoot . milk jugs at 250 where a lot of fun and i was only about 1 1/2 inches low . after the rain stops i'm going to go back out and play with the 29.5 load and see how that does.
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while

Sounds like that 204 is shooting pretty nice for you. I would be happy to blast a sub half inch group on one of my first outings!

Speaking of milkjugs, I had a blast the other day when I shot 2 of em at 300 yards with the 25-06 using a 75g V-Max at 3600fps. There was a delayed impact (the sound) and the water sprayed about 30 feet out of the jug to the left. Pretty amazing to see at 300 yards
