I bought a new Ruger SR9 semi-auto pistol last week. Has an adjustable back strap, but will leave it the way it came from the factory. Has a nice feel to it, adjustable low profile sites, took it to the range yesterday. Thought I would compare it to it's forerunner the Ruger P-89 which I also own.
The SR9 has a longer let off on the trigger before release, typical for a striker fired gun, not as nice for precision target shooting compared to the P-89. SR9 is thinner in width, also it holds 17 rounds in the clip. The SR9 has superior sites, and comes to combat position better, it also improved in accuracy as it got broken and I got used to the long let off of the trigger release. I shot Sellier and Bellot 115 grain bullets through it, there were no jams at all, pretty typical of Rugers new out of the box.
Heck of a deal at $429.00 new. I think it is equal to or better than many of the higher priced guns like the Glock. Since it is a new design we will have to see over the years if it will hold up to heavy use, but then again it is a Ruger and they are built heavy duty. I traded my CZ-75 in .40 S/W for it, I much prefer the 9X19 cartridge as it is milder on the gun, my hand, my wallet, and the 9 MM will do the job.
