Tikka 512

Hello,
I'm new here but "lurked" at times, before.
I was hoping I could get some help/incite on a gun I'm about to get.
For some time, I've been looking for a rifle/shotgun combo. and finally found one that will be "the one".
It's a Tikka 512 12ga/.222. It appears to be in mint condition.

I know very little about the Tikka but as described by the Dlr. it's a fixed choke. (IM). I'm looking for something with a "pretty tight choke". 'Something with good density out to 30yds. I don't know if this is it or not ?

Any idea when (yrs) the gun was made ?
Are there other barrels for this gun ?
Would the trigger be adjustable ?
I intend to mount a scope. Any suggestions on mounts or scope (1.5 x 4 power ?) is appreciated.
Do Tikkas usually shoot well ? ( if the operator does his part)

I am also trying to find an "owner manual" with no luck, so far.

I appreciate any help you can give.

You have a wide range of barrel sets to chose, but they all ar quite expensive (at least to me!!)
I have a 412 Velmet.  The 512 tikka is a copy.  The 412 was made in Finland, the 512 Tikka made in Italy.

Valmet barrels and Tikka barrels are interchangeable. 

I have a 412 receiver and a 12 ga/243 barrel set, a 8mm JRS Tikka set, and a 12/12 set.  For the type of gun  they are I've found them to accurate.

About scopes   For the combo u need a little extra eye relief to avoid half-moons and/or broken glasses. (ask how I know)

Years ago the standard scope was a 1.5-4 Leo.  I have a 2-7 Burris compact that works well.

  The IM choke with modern ammo will shoot a fairly tight pattern.  Pattern different loads in the gun, and you will find one you like...

  There's a scope mount MADE for these bbls, find one and mount what ever scope you want on it.  The mount is quich attach, so you can easily put the scope on or remove it and it will always be sighted in when you put it back on...

  1.5x5 Leupold is a very good choise of a scope for those bbls...

  Yes the bbls will interchange between the 412/512, BUT they should be fit to your action by a good gunsmith the first time around.  Just because they go on your action does NOT mean they are "fit" properly...

I'm not sure what 'model' number it is. It just says Ithica Firearms, Tikka, 12ga/.222, made in Finland. ( para phrase)

Does anyone know where to get serial number info., owners manual, etc.

Drilling man,
It doesn't look much like either of those....
I can't find any indication of a model # on mine. Although it does not say on the gun, I do know that '30 some odd yrs' ago, Ithica marketed a Tikka they called the "turkey gun".
I'm guessing that's what I have ?
One other note, there's a muzzle break on the .222. ( factory)

Sounds to me like you may have a Tikka M07 which was marketed in States by Ithaca as the "Turkey Gun" (see old copies of Gun Digest etc).

If it is the Tikka M07 (sort of like a Savage 24 but shotgun on top of rifle barrel with a single trigger and an external hammer & selector), you will be likely find the rifle barrel very accurate for such a thin tube.

It is a very solid and robust gun that will take just about any backwoods abuse you can throw at it but I have found the biggest fault is that the buttstocks are a little prone to splits at the receiver/butt joint, and if it is one of the early ones that has a nylon forend reatiner you will need to make a new retainer eventually.

I am on my third one of these guns and I have found that there is not very much info on the net.
