Are you making your own music?
« on: February 28, 2009, 12:14:39 PM »
Anybody else here making their own music?

I play electric guitar in the style of blues. How about you?

It seems like a lot of gun people are also guitar people. I'm not sure why.

If you've ever wondered whether there are still applications for vacuum tube circuits, electric guitar amplifiers are a major application of them. The amplifiers for guitar based on tubes just sound better than solid state amplifiers.

I played around with a guitar many years ago but never took it serious.  Christmas two years ago my wife bought me a nice used Gibson.  It sat in the case until about three months ago when one cold rainy day I dug it out and plinked on it a bit.  She waants to sign me and my grandson up for lessons, it might be fun and it might encourage him, but at 70 I don't think I will ever become a star............. 8) 8)

I've played for many years. Not so much lately but I have been playing some classical on my acoustic recently.

Definately tube amps in the studio. On the road though solid state is the way to go in my opinion. It sounds the same every time, no burning in tubes or fading tubes or changing the eq every time you set it up. A lot less headaches.

i have played professionally for 30 years. Music has always been a passion of mine.
I think the term GAS (guitar acquisition syndrome )can be interchanged with gun acquisition syndrome.
as i own almost as many guitars as guns. i also play bass and mandolin. Sing  and write my own stuff.
as well as reload,,ha ha.. ;)

I too have noticed many similarities between guitar junkies and gun junkies. It's really quite amazing, isn't it?

If this is true then why cant I play  :'( :'( :'( Actually, it does fit the discription of my older brother. He also goes as far as to mess with the Harmonica now & again and was showing me how to "bend the note" not too long ago. My eyes lit up at this and I was able to bend those notes on the open & closed reed predator calls beyond his comprehension!...I might start messing with a harmonica as I never learned how to play any other instrument.

I started playing the Hormonica years ago to keep my self awake in the early morning hours on watch!

Picked one up the other day and I can still belt along with Jimmy Buffet, but somebody told me I play it upside down,...... dang if I had known that I would have turned it over when I learned it in the first place.

I probably have "bent" a few notes in my time and did not even know it!  ;)

GAS can also be interpreted as Gear Acquisition Syndrome and one that instrumentalists suffer from most frequently  :P. I think at one time I owned about a $1k worth of saxophone mouthpieces. Not that many of them, just the approx value of what they all were worth. Nuts, huh? And trumpet players I hear are worse but hey, who am I to judge? Hehe...

I love composing...I used to really get into techno/modern compositions then started to write wind ensemble and choral pieces after that, maturing in my composing logic. I love listening to music that others' compose though; its always interesting to hear other ideas and perspectives on music. We only have twelve tones...how different could it be? :P

Yep, I play guitar and write my own music. Mostly country gospel in the area of writing. I like all kinds of music. As long as it's country, and a little blues. ;D
