Sidekicks vs TC's
« on: September 21, 2009, 11:48:19 AM »
Someone a few topices below said how do the huntsmans compare to the CVA's,well how about the sidekicks vs the TC's.

My uncle has the Omega, and I would hands down take a Sidekick over it any day of the week. For one reason the sights are back words to me,the green fiber optic on the TC is in the front while the red is in the rear.My heritage has the green in the rear and the red in the front...It seems every where you go,Dicks,Gandermountain,Cabelas and so on its always TC's....Same for all the TV shows.

You never see a Sidekick{even when in production} advertised.

Just my thoughts.

Steve.

Steve,

I agree. My buddy has a TC omega and he bought it when it first came out for $500 and my huntsman was $149. His TC is a nice gun, but like all other TC's I've seen his is really fussy about what you put down the barrell. I can stuff anything down the barrell and hit a pie plate all day long at 100 yards. Never seen a TC been able to do that.....not sayin' there arent any just never seen one in person.

Plus since TC is all you see on TV it translates to all the gun shops carry is TC stuff and it aint cheap. I am just tired of all I see on hunting shows are people with TC's. I mean, if I had a sponser to give me that expensive rifle, I would talk it up too. I would like to have a TC but they are not in the price realm of a working man any more. And barrell for barrell in any caliber, be it muzzleloader, center fire, or shotgun.......not to mention dependablity along with price I would put my huntsman up against any TC any day. The only place TC has real advantage is pistol barrells....We cant go there.

I travel coast to coast with work, so I love visiting new outdoor/gun shops and I have never had one gun shop owner say not one bad thing about a huntsman (except for the ramrod of course :)  That is pretty strong proof for me considering they deal in all types of firearms. As a matter of fact they all same the same thing: "Thats a good shootin' little gun........to bad they quit makin' it" "Never did like the ramrod though."  I can live with that. I'll take a good shooting gun with a lousy factory ramrod for $350 bucks or more less every day. Besides, I always tell all the TC guys in deer camp when they are talkin' trash that our firearm manufacturer was dropping buffalo on the great plains long before TC was a twinkle in someones eye.......and if they want a range competition we'll fire it up and see. That quiets the crowd.

My wifeshoots a Sidekick, and I hate to say it, but it shoots better than the Omegas I've owned.  With the primer carriers, it is a filthy gun, but with the .25ACP clean up is a snap.  It shoots anything you feed it, and 240 XTP's, 240 Cheap Shots, 250 Scorpion PT's and 250 SW's are all tack drivers.  Only thing bad is the ramrod.  I feel it is the best buy out there for a ML.  Also, I doubt you could shoot BH209 with the ACP primers.

I have a Huntsman (almost a Sidekick) and an Omega. The Omega was a very early one and at that time there were less combinations of bullet sabot projectiles. Mine was nearly impossible to find anything that could be shoved down the barrel. It was such a disappointment that even now with the various combinations available there is little over the counter in sabots that will function in the Omega. The Huntsman will accept and shoot well almost anything you feed it. The Omega also became somewhat inaccurate after about 75 shots. The front mounting lug is loose and cannot be tightened without metal work. The stock is the light weight plastic one that has a history of being too flexible. Once I fix the front mount and pillar bed the stock and make the barrel free floating it might be OK.   For the money NEF did a better job than T/C. My Omega was expensive!!!!

I have a Sidekick & it is accurate, but I don't use it anymore.

I have a Huntsman and a Omega. The Huntsman will shoot most any load and bullet well inside 2" the omega is a little fussier about loads but with the right load is just as accurate. The omega is getting more and more accurate as rounds go thru it and is much easier to load now than when it was new. I have about 150 rounds thru it now. But overall both are excellent guns.
