reloading for NEF pardner shotgun reciever
« on: July 18, 2011, 02:01:52 PM »
Hello all , I am going to shoot a new barrel I have , its chambered for 45/410 . I want to know can the receiver take full powered 45LC loads . Can these shotgun receivers handle loads on par for TC/Ruger#1 , or do I start at Colt SA levels?
Thanks

In a short answer .....yes. They will handle any load a modern 45 colt will handle........accuracy is another question al together

The SB1 frame that comes on the 45/410 is the same frame that H&R uses on the current 44mag which has a higher SAAMI MAP at 36kpsi than 45 Colt TC/Ruger(+P) loads, plus the extreme freebore with Colt loads will reduce pressure and breech thrust by a substantial amount, unfortunately, it does the same to accuracy.  :-\

Tim,

Want to make sure I get this right since I am thinking about a 45lc/410.  I know that an SB1 is good for 44 Mag SAAMI spec loads.  With the barrel on the 45/410 being 1137 mild steel (shotgun barrel steel I assume) then the weak link in this gun is the chamber?  So is a ruger/TC 45LC load too much pressure for the 45lc/410 barrel?  I understand that the bullet jump will moderate the pressure spike but am thinking along the lines of a cartridge that would allow the 45 slug to be near on touching the rifling.

I don't see it as a problem if you keep the pressures low, JerryKo did quite a bit of shooting with his on an SB2 frame using longer brass, another member is using 9.3x72 brass and Trail Boss. One problem I see is drilling and tapping the barrel for a scope base, I suspect that's the reason for the 444 Contender blow up, he had a 6-hole mount on it!  ::)

Thanks Tim, I may have to take a look at those FAQs one day. ;D    Looks like the 45LC/410 barrel gives me another oppurtunity (excuse) to resize winchester 410 AA hulls.  I wonder if Budgunshop is on line right now?
