Deer & black bear with .243

   When reloading for deer & black bear in your .243 Win, what is your favorite bullet ?  I see Midway has a good price on 95 gr Nosler ballistic tips..anyone tried these in an actual hunting situation ?

I don't hunt with a 243 . I do hunt with a 25-06 and for deer use a 100 gr BT . Never had a deer walk away from one. I would opt for a heavier and non HP bullet if bear hunting . My BTs are about 3300 FPS if I remember correctly.

I've never got the accuracy from Nosler bullets I have from Hornady. So I just stick with the Hornady interloc's and have never had a problem from antelope to elk. For varmints and coyotes sometimes I load the 80 gr remington or winchester bulk bullets.

I wouldnt use a bt on bear, i think a bears fur and hide would be thicker than a deer,i have had a bad experince with bt out of a 06 so i dont use them any more,i use lead nose bullets in all my deer rifles,i use speer 120gr hot core bullets out of my 25-06 they work well and stay together ,  i think speer  changed the name of the hot core bullets to deep curl or full curl and they are a great bullet and stay together well

 My 243 loads are a 95 grn partition with H-4350, works fine. For bear I'd do the same, or a 100 grn partition or Hornady / Sierra offering. With a close shot over a bait pile our group put 2 down immediately this fall with a neck shot, bears that is. For this shot you don't need a 300 mag.

This picture is from another member that said the bullet entered the chest of a deer and plowed through the full length of the deer and came to rest in a ham or just under the hide on the rump. And it busted at least one rib on the way there. It's a Sierra 100gr Pro Hunter. I use the Game King boattail version of this bullet on big Mule Deer and Antelope and it works great and prints 3/4" 3 shot groups with my rifle. Never shot a bear with it.
 
I wouldn't use a Ballistic Tip on bear myself. I used to use Nosler Solid Base 100gr for deer and they were more fragile than I liked, without the plastic tip. A friend of mine checked the zero on his scope by shooting a rockchuck with a .30-06 180gr BT. It blew the rockchuck apart almost like a varmint bullet. In comparison, I shot a praire dog with a .30-06 110gr Hornady and it just poked a little hole through it. I don't trust BTs to hold together.
 
Not saying it won't work or anything, but I lean toward .308 when I think about Black Bears.

The Sierra 100 gr .243 FB is one tough bullet. I've had the same bullet as pictured above punch thru the shoulder, clip the spine and come to rest on the off side shoulder bone of a young bull moose at less then 50 yards without core and jacket seperation.

The sierra 100gr gamekind SBT has proven to be an excellent whitetail bullet and I don't know why it wouldn't work as well on black bear.  Other bullet choices to look at would be 100gr partition or 85gr TSX should work well too.

The 100gr Speer Grand Slam has been my favorite for awhile now.
