Anyone try runnin this in a contender say 24in barrel?
« on: March 14, 2013, 09:12:42 AM »
In my search for finding the best all around balanced 6.5 for my contender I ran across the 264 RLB. A 6.5 on the 6.8spc case with the 40 ackley shoulder pushin 140's 2700fps is this possible?

I doubt you could get enough powder in the case to get that velocity. Maybe 2400fps if your lucky. I could be wrong though....

Absolutely not...
A 6.5x30-30 AI (aka 6.5 Bullberry IMP) in a 1:8/26" barrel gave me 2450 fps with 140s & N160 and is realistically about as much as you will get out of the Contender in 6.5 bore size. The 6.5 JDJ will do virtually the same.
120s approached 2700.

Go to "reloadbench.com".  They are the ones who developed this cartridge.  There is an entire section of their bulletin board devoted to it.

Jucedogg,

How do you run a cartridge? That's a term that seems out of place in the gun world to me.

I seldom see it used here at GBO but over on the fire everyone that's hip uses it all the time. Well anyway welcome to GBO and I hope you like it here.  ;D

Thanks everybody for the replies to my question and I apologize to (pastorp) for leaving out the simple minded! I don't consider myself as an expert reloader or even close for that fact but I do have some experience (15yrs) and want to get more into wildcatting. The load that I did find for the 264RLB was 33gr. of R17 @2600fps with the 130gr. swift but no barrel length given. If it was 26in then that would put it right behind the 6.5 Bullberry imp with better brass and an easier case to form correct? My original question should have been if the original contender frame would handle the pressure.
P.S. The 6.5BRM beats both the 6.5Bullberry imp and the 6.5jdj and why does everyone say that you can't put a 6.5grendal in the contender when EABCO chambers for the 264LBC when those two are the same! I'm not trying to start anything just simple questions!   Thank you
